Margaret Gleghorne, also known as Maggie Gleghorne, is a former women's field hockey player from Northern Ireland who represented both Ireland and Great Britain at international level.
Between 1967 and 1974 Gleghorne attended Ballymena Academy. In 1972–73 she was a member of the academy team that were joint winners of the Ulster Senior Schoolgirls' Cup. In 1972 Gleghorne was still a schoolgirl at Ballymena Academy when she made her senior debut for Ireland aged sixteen. [1] [2]
Gleghorne represented Ulster at interprovincial level, both as a schoolgirl and as a senior player. By the time she left school in 1974, she had played for the Ulster schoolgirls team for five years in succession. By the age of fifteen, she had made seven senior interprovincial appearances, the first one gained against Leinster in 1970. [1] [4]
In 1972 Gleghorne made her senior debut for Ireland against Scotland. At the time she was still a sixteen year old schoolgirl at Ballymena Academy. [1] [4] [5] In 1972–73 she scored the winning goal for Ireland against England at Wembley in front of a crowd of 60,000. [1] [4] In 1977 she was a member of the Ireland team that won the Triple Crown. She captained Ireland when they won the 1983 Intercontinental Cup in Kuala Lumpur. Her Ireland teammates from this era included Mary Geaney. [4] She also represented Ireland at the 1984 Women's EuroHockey Nations Championship [6] and the 1986 Women's Hockey World Cup. In 2010 she was inducted into the Irish Hockey Association Hall of Fame. [4] [7] [5] She retired from the Ireland squad in 1986–87. [3]
Gleghorne also represented Great Britain. She was first called up for the Great Britain squad in 1979–80 in preparation for the 1980 Summer Olympics. [3] In 1984 while playing for Great Britain, she was named the team's Player of the Year. [8] [9]

Two of Gleghorne's nephews are senior men's field hockey internationals. Her brother, Andy, is the father of Paul and Mark Gleghorne. Paul has played for Ireland while his brother, Mark has played for Ireland, England and Great Britain. [10] [11]
Billy McConnell is a former field hockey player from Northern Ireland who represented both Ireland and Great Britain at international level. He represented Great Britain at the 1984 Summer Olympics when they won the bronze medal. He also represented Ireland at the 1990 Men's Hockey World Cup.

Pegasus Hockey Club is a women's field hockey club based in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The club enter teams in the Women's Irish Hockey League, the Irish Senior Cup, the Irish Junior Cup and the Ulster Shield. Pegasus has also represented Ireland in European competitions. Pegasus was founded in 1961 by students and teachers from the Ulster College of Physical Education, Jordanstown and Stranmillis University College. The Pegasus name is an acronym of Physical Education Girls and Staff Ulster College and Stranmillis.

In 1976 she captained Kerry when they won the All-Ireland Senior Ladies' Football Championship and in 1980 she captained Cork when they won the All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship. She was the first player to captain a team to both championships. As a field hockey international, she was a member of the Ireland team that won the 1983 Women's Intercontinental Cup. In 2010 she was inducted into the Irish Hockey Association Hall of Fame.
Violet McBride is a former women's field hockey player from Northern Ireland who represented both Ireland and Great Britain at international level. She represented Great Britain at the 1988 Summer Olympics. In 1989 she was awarded the. In 2011 she was inducted into the Irish Hockey Association Hall of Fame. McBride is also a former drum major World champion, winning the title in both 1980 and 1982. McBride has also represented Ireland as a senior ladies golfer.
Iain Lewers is a field hockey player from Northern Ireland who represented Ireland, England and Great Britain at international level. He represented Great Britain at the 2012 and 2016 Summer Olympics. He was also a member the England teams that won bronze medals at the 2011 Men's EuroHockey Nations Championship and 2014 Commonwealth Games. He also represented England at the 2013 and 2015 Men's EuroHockey Nations Championships and at the 2014 Men's Hockey World Cup. In both 2014 and 2015 Lewers was named the England/Great Britain Player of the Year by the Hockey Writers' Club.
Elena Joy Neill, also referred to as Lena Tice, is an Ireland women's field hockey international. She was a member of the Ireland team that played in the 2018 Women's Hockey World Cup final. Tice is also an Ireland women's cricket international. She was a dual Ireland women's cricket and field hockey international by the age of 17. In 2011, she made her senior international cricket debut, aged just 13 years and 272 days. As a result, after Pakistan's Sajjida Shah, Tice became the second youngest player in the history of cricket, male or female, to make their international debut playing in an official One Day International or Twenty20 International. She also represented Ireland at the 2014 ICC Women's World Twenty20. Tice has also won Irish Senior Cup and Women's Irish Hockey League titles with UCD Ladies' Hockey Club.

Shirley McCay is an Ireland women's field hockey international. She was a member of the Ireland team that played in the 2018 Women's Hockey World Cup final. McCay has played in the Women's Irish Hockey League for Old Alex, Ulster Elks and Pegasus. She was a member of the Ulster Elks team that won two successive Irish Senior Cup titles in 2014–15 and 2015–16. Since 2015 she has been Ireland's most capped women's field hockey international.
Megan Frazer is an Ireland women's field hockey international. She was a member of the Ireland team that played in the 2018 Women's Hockey World Cup. She has also captained the Ireland team. Frazer was a member of the Maryland Terrapins team that won the 2010 and 2011 NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championships. Between 2010 and 2012 she was named three times as an NFHCA All-American and in 2011 she also won the Honda Sports Award. Frazer has also won Irish Senior Cup titles with Ulster Elks.

Hermes Ladies' Hockey Club was a women's field hockey club based at St. Andrew's College in Booterstown, Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown, Ireland. The club entered teams in the Women's Irish Hockey League, the Irish Senior Cup and the Irish Junior Cup. In 2016 Hermes merged with the women's team at Monkstown Hockey Club and subsequently played as Hermes-Monkstown. As Hermes-Monkstown, the club represented Ireland in the 2017 EuroHockey Club Champions Cup.
Martin Sloan, also referred to as Marty Sloan, is a former field hockey player from Northern Ireland who represented Ireland and Great Britain at international level. Between 1982 and 1995 he made 149 senior appearances for Ireland. Between 1987 and 1995 he captained Ireland on 107 occasions. He represented Ireland at the 1983, 1987, 1991 and 1995 EuroHockey Nations Championships and at the 1990 Men's Hockey World Cup. Sloan also made 6 senior appearances for Great Britain. He is the father of Ian Sloan, the Ireland, England and Great Britain international.
