Marianne Dissard is a French-born American singer, [1] photographer, author, producer, and filmmaker.

Contents

She has released four albums, [2] four EPs, and a number of singles and collaborations. She started touring abroad in 2006, including in countries such as China, Turkey, New Zealand, [3] and Australia.

Her first book, memoir Not Me, was self-published in 2019. Her photography has been exhibited in Ramsgate (UK), Turner Contemporary [4] in Margate (UK), Paris (France), and Glasgow (UK). [5]

Activism

In 2004, Dissard founded The Tucson Suffragettes in Tucson, Arizona to encourage youth voter registration in the 2004 American presidential election cycle. [6]

Her 2019 memoir "Not Me" details her decades-long struggles with eating disorders and she has been open in sharing her experience on stage and in the media. [7] [8]

Marie-Louise Dissard,, was a member of the French Resistance during the German occupation of France in World War II. She initially worked with the Pat O'Leary Line, a network which helped downed Allied airmen evade German capture and return to Great Britain. The O'Leary Line was first headed by Ian Garrow and later by Albert Guérisse. In 1943, after their arrests and the destruction of the O'Leary Line by the German Gestapo, Dissard created an escape network called the Francoise Line. The Francoise Line helped more than 250 Allied airmen escape occupied France and return to Great Britain. Including her work with the O'Leary line, Dissard helped more than 700 allied airmen escape from France. She received financial assistance from the British intelligence agency, MI9.

Since about 2012, they have also performed as Giant Giant Sand when featuring a larger ensemble than their traditional four to six musicians.

On January 8, 2011, U.S. Representative Gabby Giffords and 18 others were shot during a constituent meeting held in a supermarket parking lot in Casas Adobes, Arizona, in the Tucson metropolitan area. Six people were killed, including federal District Court Chief Judge John Roll; Gabe Zimmerman, one of Giffords's staffers; and a 9-year-old girl, Christina-Taylor Green. Giffords was holding the meeting, called "Congress on Your Corner", in the parking lot of a Safeway store when Jared Lee Loughner drew a pistol and shot her in the head before proceeding to fire on other people. One additional person was injured in the immediate aftermath of the shooting. News reports identified the target of the attack to be Giffords, a Democrat representing Arizona's 8th congressional district. She was shot through the head at point-blank range, and her medical condition was initially described as "critical".

Marianne Means was an American journalist and syndicated political columnist based in Washington, D.C. who, for many years, was a White House correspondent. She started her career as a reporter and advanced to the role of a copy editor for a newspaper in Nebraska for a couple of years. She then relocated to Washington, D.C. where she took a position as the chief editor for a Virginia newspaper and supervised a staff of men for two years. She later transferred to Hearst Newspapers where she was a Washington bureau correspondent. She covered the reporting of John F. Kennedy's presidential campaign. A significant figure in the development of the Southwest psychedelic rock movement, Lopez has established a number of noted bands including Mostly Bears and XIXA, and played with internationally recognized artists Calexico, Giant Sand, KT Tunstall, and Nouvelle Vague.
