Marie Cardouat is a French illustrator, best known for illustrating the original image card deck of the game Dixit.

Early life and education

Cardouat was born in 1981 in Finistère. She attended the School of Decorative Arts in Strasbourg, and set up a small studio near Paris upon her graduation in 2006. [1] [2]

Career

Cardouat began illustrating for Editions des Correspondances, a stationery company publishing greeting cards and postcards. Having heard that Régis Bonnessée of Libellud was seeking an illustrator, she submitted a portfolio and won the commission to illustrate the cards for Dixit (2008). [3] Since then, she has continued to illustrate games, including Marrakech (2010), Au Pays Des Papas (2010), Steam Park (2013), Abracada...What? (2014), [4] ...and then, we held hands (2015), [5] and HOP! (2016), which she co-designed with Ludovic Maublanc. [6] A recent game featuring her illustrations is 1001 Islands (2022), [7] originally published as The Little Prince: Make Me a Planet (2013). [8]

His first board game review was for The Settlers of Canaan.

Cliff Nielsen is an American book illustrator and comic book artist. The Internet Speculative Fiction Database credits him with cover art for about 500 book and magazine covers published since 1994 Nielsen is best known for his work on projects such as Star Wars, The X-Files, Chronicles of Narnia among many projects including advertising campaigns, designs, and magazines. His illustrations have been recognized for their excellence by the Society of Illustrators, Print, and Spectrum among others. Feature articles focusing on his work appear in design publications and fanzine magazines. Nielsen has been an international speaker on digital art and has served as a judge for the Society of Illustrators and a variety of professional illustration award programs. He lives in Los Angeles, California.

<i>Dixit</i> (card game) 2008 French card game

Dixit, is a French card game created by Jean-Louis Roubira, illustrated by Marie Cardouat, and published by Libellud. Using a deck of cards illustrated with dreamlike images, players select cards that match a title suggested by the designated storyteller player, and attempt to guess which card the storyteller selected. The game was introduced in 2008. Dixit won the 2010 Spiel des Jahres award.

<i>Catan</i> Multi-player competitive-cooperative board game

Catan, previously known as The Settlers of Catan or simply Settlers, is a multiplayer board game designed by Klaus Teuber. It was first published in 1995 in Germany by Franckh-Kosmos Verlag (Kosmos) as Die Siedler von Catan. Players take on the roles of settlers, each attempting to build and develop holdings while trading and acquiring resources. Players gain victory points as their settlements grow; the first to reach a set number of victory points, typically 10, wins. In Oath, players compete to become the Chancellor, and the events of each game influence the events of the games that follow. Upon its release, Oath received positive reviews, and an expansion for the game is in development. The game is part of an increase in the release of games that are based on a scenario or have a campaign structure, and is focused on fantasy politics and crisis.

The Chameleon is a deception party game designed by Rikki Tahta and published in 2017 by Big Potato Games. All players except one—the "Chameleon"—are given a secret topic and attempt to identify the Chameleon, while the Chameleon attempts to identify the topic, using social deduction.
