Marit Svarva Henriksen (27 April 1925 – 9 June 2014) was a Norwegian politician for the Labour Party.
The Labour Party, formerly the Norwegian Labour Party, is a social-democratic political party in Norway. It was the senior partner of the governing Red-Green Coalition from 2005 to 2013, and its leader, Jens Stoltenberg, was Prime Minister of Norway during that time. The party is currently led by Jonas Gahr Støre.
She was born in Skogn. She attended folk high school, worked for Televerket in Skogn for 25 years before being hired by Stjørdal Municipality in 1966. She later attended the Nordic folk high school in Geneva (1960) as well as several other courses. [1]
Skogn is a village in Levanger municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. The village is located on the eastern shore of the Trondheimsfjorden, about 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) southwest of the town of Levanger. The European route E06 highway runs through the village, just past the Fiborgtangen industrial area located along the shore. There is a Norske Skog Skogn paper mill at Fiborgtangen. The Nordlandsbanen railway line stops in the village at Skogn Station.
Stjørdal or Skierde is a municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is part of the Stjørdalen region. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town of Stjørdal, also called Stjørdalshalsen. Some of the villages in the municipality include Elvran, Flornes, Hegra, Hell, Kvithammer, Prestmoen, Skatval, Skjelstadmarka, Sona, and Værnes.
She was elected as a local politician in Skogn, later Levanger, together with her twin sister, and was also a member of Nord-Trøndelag county council. She finished her service in Levanger city council in 2003. [1] [2] She served as a deputy representative to the Parliament of Norway from Nord-Trøndelag during the terms 1958–1961, 1961–1965 and 1969–1973. In total she met during 10 days of parliamentary session. [3]
Nord-Trøndelag County Municipality is the regional governing administration of Nord-Trøndelag, Norway. The main responsibilities of the county municipality includes the running of 12 upper secondary schools, with 7,000 pupils. It administrates 1,771 km of county roadways, public transport, dental care, culture and cultural heritage.
A County council is the highest governing body of the county municipalities in Norway. The county council sets the scope of the county municipal activity. The council is led by a chairman or county mayor (fylkesordfører). Members of the council are elected for a four-year term through the general local elections. It is common for members of a county council to also hold seats in municipal councils, but very rare that they also hold legislative (Storting) or other government office, without a leave of absence.
She also became known as head of the jury in the 1983 court case against serial killer Arnfinn Nesset. [1]
Arnfinn Nesset is a Norwegian former nurse, nursing home manager and convicted serial killer. His crimes include the murders of at least 22 people, as well as attempted murder, document forgery and embezzlement. He may have murdered up to 138 people. In 1983 he was convicted of poisoning 22 patients and sentenced to 21 years in prison. He served 12 years and 10 years supervision, and is thought to be living under an assumed name.
