The Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (ΣΘΤ) is the second-largest nursing organization in the world with approximately 135,000 active members. While often referred to by nurses as simply Sigma,its official name is "Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing".
The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) is a professional degree in nursing. In the United States,the DNP is one of three doctorate degrees in nursing,the others being the research degrees PhD and the Doctor of Nursing Science. Internationally,since the 1990s,there have been a wide number of doctorate degrees available for nurses,including DProf,PhD and others. Internationally all such doctoral nursing degrees include mandatory research elements and take longer than a single year to complete.

Nursing is a profession within the health care sector focused on the care of individuals,families,and communities so they may attain,maintain,or recover optimal health and quality of life. Nurse practitioners are nurses with a graduate degree in advanced practice nursing. They are however permitted by most jurisdictions to practice independently in a variety of settings. Since the postwar period,nurse education has undergone a process of diversification towards advanced and specialized credentials,and many of the traditional regulations and provider roles are changing.
The Michigan State University College of Nursing is the nursing college at Michigan State University. It is located on the southeastern side of campus in East Lansing,Michigan,United States. The college is centered in the Life Sciences Building,adjacent to the College of Human Medicine. The dean of the school is Randolph F. R. Rasch,PhD,RN,FAANP. They conduct research that helps students graduate with confidence of moving forward with careers.”As a part of their role in the College of Nursing,faculty maintains a clinical practice. According to the Faculty Practice page,the clinic believes “teaching research,practice and service must be closely integrated to achieve excellence. It is also backed by the research of MSU,education programs of the College and Michigan State University Health Team.”
Audrey O'Brien Nelson is an American registered nurse,research scientist,and professor in multiple colleges at the University of South Florida. She is the director of the VISN 8 Evidence-Based Practice Center and the Biomechanic Research Laboratory at the James A. Haley Veterans Hospital in Tampa,Florida. Nelson is also a speaker on topics related to nursing research in spinal cord injury occupational safety and patient safety.
Rhetaugh Etheldra Graves Dumas (1928–2007) was an American nurse,professor,and health administrator. Dumas was the first Black woman to serve as a dean at the University of Michigan. She served as the dean of the University of Michigan Nursing School. She also served as deputy director of the National Institute of Mental Health,becoming the first nurse,female,or African-American to hold that position. She is said to have been the first nurse to use the scientific method to conduct experiments that evaluated nursing practices.
Margaret Scott-Wright was a Professor of Nursing at the University of Edinburgh,and later head of nursing schools in Canada. Her research related to public health and nursing education. In 1971,she became the first professor in Nursing Studies in the United Kingdom.
Bernadette J. Mazurek Melnyk is an American nurse. She is a professor of pediatrics and psychiatry at Ohio State University College of Medicine and dean of the College of Nursing. Melnyk is also the editor in chief of the journal Worldviews on Evidence Based Nursing.
Susan J. Pressler is an American cardiovascular researcher and nurse. She is the Susan Rearhard Endowed Chair in Nursing and Director of the Center for Enhancing Quality of Life in Chronic Illness at the Indiana University School of Nursing.
Elaine Lucille Larson is an American infectious disease specialist. As a Professor of Epidemiology at the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health,she has published four books and more than four hundred articles on the subjects of infection prevention and control,disease epidemiology,and related issues. In 2017,Larson was named a "Living Legend" by the American Academy of Nursing,the Academy's highest honor.
Meridean Leone Maas,born Meridean Speas,was an American nurse and nursing educator. She was on the faculty of the University of Iowa College of Nursing.
Mary Jo Haddad is a Canadian nurse and health care executive. After spending 10 years as the President and CEO of The Hospital for Sick Children,Haddad became the first female Chancellor at the University of Windsor.
Diana Joyce Wilkie is an American nurse researcher. She is the Prairieview Trust-Earl and Margo Powers Endowed Professor at the University of Florida (UFL). Wilkie was elected to the National Academy of Medicine in 2012.
Kathleen Marie Potempa is an American nursing administrator. In 2014,Potempa was one of six University of Michigan faculty members elected to the Institute of Medicine.
Christopher Ryan Friese is an American nurse scientist. In 2020,he was elected to membership in the National Academy of Medicine and in 2021,was appointed to the National Cancer Advisory Board.
Therese S. Richmond is an American nurse researcher. She is the Andrea B. Laporte Professor of Nursing and Associate Dean for Research and Innovation at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing,and a member of the National Academy of Medicine
Margaret Eunice McLean Heitkemper is an American nurse. She is the Elizabeth Sterling Soule Endowed Chair in Nursing at the University of Washington.
Antonia M. Villarruel is an American nurse. She has served as the Margaret Simon Bond Dean of Nursing at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing since 2014.
Tener Goodwin Veenema is an American nurse and a public health scientist. She is a Senior Scientist in the Department of International Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and a Contributing Scholar at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security. In 2021,Goodwin Veenema was elected as a Member of the National Academy of Medicine.
