Mark Steven Hepburn (born 29 August 1968) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with North Melbourne, the West Coast Eagles and the Sydney Swans in the Victorian/Australian Football League (VFL/AFL).
Australian rules football, officially known as Australian football, or simply called Aussie rules, football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of eighteen players on an oval-shaped field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval-shaped ball between goal posts or between behind posts.
The North Melbourne Football Club, nicknamed the Kangaroos or less formally the Roos, the Kangas or North, is the fourth oldest Australian rules football club in the Australian Football League (AFL) and is one of the oldest sporting clubs in Australia and the world. It is based at the Arden Street Oval in the inner Melbourne suburb of North Melbourne, Victoria, but plays its home matches at the nearby Docklands Stadium.
The West Coast Eagles, also known simply as West Coast or the Eagles, is an Australian rules football club playing in the Australian Football League (AFL). Based in Perth, Western Australia, it represents its home state and the Perth metropolitan region. It trains at Lathlain Park and plays its home games at Perth Stadium, also known as Optus Stadium, in Burswood, having previously played at Subiaco Oval and the WACA Ground. The club is one of two AFL clubs based in Western Australia, the other being its main rival, the Fremantle Football Club.
North Melbourne recruited Hepburn from Claremont and he was used initially as a forward in the VFL. He kicked a goal with his first kick in league football, against St Kilda at Moorabbin Oval. Hepburn, who could also play as a key defender, was North Melbourne's leading ruckman in the 1989 and 1990 seasons, with the most hit-outs each year. [1]
The Claremont Football Club, nicknamed Tigers, is an Australian rules football club based in Claremont, Western Australia, that currently plays in the West Australian Football League (WAFL). Its official colours are navy blue and gold. Formed as the "Cottesloe Beach Football Club" in 1906, the club entering the WAFL in 1925 as the "Claremont-Cottesloe Football Club"', changing its name to the present in 1935. Claremont have won 12 senior premierships since entering the competition, including most recently the 2011 and 2012 premierships.
The St Kilda Football Club, nicknamed the Saints, is an Australian rules football club based in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The club plays in the Australian Football League, the sport's premier league.
Moorabbin Oval, also known by its sponsorship name of RSEA Safety Park, is an Australian Rules Football ground in the city of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia at Linton Street in the suburb of Moorabbin.
He requested a trade to West Coast in 1991 but spent just two seasons with his new club before being delisted when they had to trim their squad. [2] After a year spent traveling overseas, Hepburn was picked up by Sydney with selection 57 in the 1993 AFL Draft but would only make seven appearances. [3]
