Assamese cinema is the Indian film industry of Assamese language. It is based in Assam, India. The industry was born in 1935 when Jyoti Prasad Agarwala released his movie Joymoti. Since then the Assamese cinema has developed a slow-paced, sensitive style. In the beginning the industry were called Jollywood, for Agarwala's Jyoti Chitraban Film Studio.

Himanta Biswa Sarma is an Indian politician and lawyer serving as the 15th and current Chief Minister of Assam since 2021. A former member of the Indian National Congress, Sarma joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on 23 August 2015 and soon was made convenor of NEDA. He is a five time Member of the Assam Legislative Assembly from Jalukbari, having been elected since 2001.

An alumnus of the National School of Drama, which he had joined in 1987 Baharul has acted in more than 80 plays, designed and directed 30 plays for his theater troupe Seagull. He is one of the busiest theatre artists in Assam. He is also a film actor who works in Assamese and Hindi films.
Poley Poley Urey Mon is a 2011 Indian Assamese language drama film directed by Timothy Das Hanche, produced by Phukan Konwar, Purnananda Gogoi and Beauty Baruah under the banner Hills Motion Pictures Association of Diphu. The casts of the movie are Nipon Goswami, Moloya Goswami, Barsha Rani Bishaya, Gayatri Mahanta, Ravi Sarma, Rimpi Das, Parineeta Borthakur, Tarun Arora, Mahika Sharma etc. Bollywood actor Raza Murad and former Assam CM Tarun Gogoi also performed a cameo in this movie.
The Prag Cine Awards North-East 2016 ceremony, presented by the Prag Network, honoured the actors, technical achievements, and films censored in 2015 from Assam and rest of Northeast India, took place on 14–15 May 2016 at the Church field in Tezpur, Assam. Film fraternities from Northeast as well as Bollywood personalities such as Suniel Shetty, Meiyang Chang were present in this event.

His directorial debut was in 2015 with Aisa Yeh Jahaan, India's first movie to be carbon neutral during production. Calendar is a 2018 Indian Assamese-language drama film directed by Himjyoti Talukdar under the banner of Enajori Talkies. The film stars Moloya Goswami, Arun Nath, Gunjan Bhardwaj and Rimjhim Deka. The movie was released on 16 February 2018 in theatres across Assam. The film has received good word of mouth publicity and the footfall has been increasing since its release. Many people have expressed in social media how this film made them emotional about their relationship with the family especially old parents. The film received the maximum number of seven awards in Prag Cine Awards North East 2018 in various categories. Lead actor Arun Nath won the Jury Special Award in the 2nd Guwahati International Film Festival for his performance in the film.
