Ratan Sil Sarma is an Indian film director. [1] [2] He is associated with Assamese Cinema and Hindi Cinema. [3]

Career

He started his career as film editor. He edited the films like Gangs of North East, Dham Dhama Dham and Kokaideu Bindaas. In 2016, he made his directing debut with Assamese film Marksheet for which he received several awards in Prag Cine Awards. [4] In 2020, he directed Hindi film Pepper Chicken.[ citation needed ]

Assamese cinema, also known as Jollywood, is an Indian film industry of Assamese-language motion pictures. It is based in Assam, India. The industry was born in 1935 when Jyoti Prasad Agarwala released his movie Joymoti. Since then the Assamese cinema has developed a slow-paced, sensitive style, especially with the movies of Bhabendra Nath Saikia and Jahnu Barua. The industry is called Jollywood, named for Agarwala's Jyoti Chitraban Film Studio.

Joymoti or Joimoti, released on 10 March 1935, was the first Assamese film made. Based on Lakshminath Bezbaroa's play about the 17th-century Ahom princess Soti Joymoti, the film was produced and directed by the noted Assamese poet, author, and film-maker Jyoti Prasad Agarwala, and starred Aideu Handique and acclaimed stage actor and playwright Phani Sarma. The film, shot between 1933 and 1935, was released by Chitralekha Movietone in 1935 and marked the beginning of Assamese cinema.

Phani Sarma (1910–1970) was an Indian theatre actor, playwright, film actor and director. Beginning as a stage actor, he appeared in the first film ever made in Assamese cinema, Joymati, in 1935. Sarma was conferred with the title "Natasurya" for his contribution towards Assamese drama.

Dwaar is a 2013 Indian Assamese drama film directed by Bidyut Chakravarty, with his own screenplay, and produced by Sanjive Narain and Bidyut Chakravarty himself. It was adapted from the Assamese short story Bahiroloi Jowa Baat by Apurba Sarma. Dwaar stars Kapil Bora, Zerifa Wahid and Mahika Sharma in the lead roles. The literal translation of the title means Door.

Biswajeet Bora Internationally acclaimed award winning Indian filmmaker, producer writer & editor and one of the renowned filmmakers from Northeast India, now based in Mumbai. Apurba Sarma

Apurba Sarma is a National Award-winning film critic and a Sahitya Akademi winning author from Halem, Sonitpur district, Assam. He is one of the brothers of Arun Sarma who is also a Sahitya Academy Award winning author. He did his Masters in Economics at Gauhati University (1965). And later worked as a staff reporter at The Assam Tribune (1965–1967), as lecturer in economics at Nowgong Girls College (1967–1997), as principal, Nowgong Girls College (1997–2002), and as editor of Ajir Asom, an Assamese daily published by The Sentinel (Guwahati). He is presently the founder-president of Xahitya Mancha Asom, a Guwahati-based society of writers and fans of Assamese literature.

Boloram Das (Balram) is an Indian actor who has appeared in Hindi, English and Assamese films. He is best known his roles in Badlapur Boys, Gabbar is Back and High Jack.

Marksheet is an Indian Assamese-language film directed by Ratan Sil Sarma. It stars Pranami Bora, Jintu kalita and Aditya Malla. The film was released theatrically on 6 April 2016.
