The Minnesota Vikings are a professional American football team based in Minneapolis. They compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the National Football Conference (NFC) North division. Founded in 1960 as an expansion team, the team began play the following year. They are named after the Vikings of medieval Scandinavia, reflecting the prominent Scandinavian American culture of Minnesota. He played college football at the University of Miami, where he was a national champion and two-time Heisman Trophy finalist, and was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the seventh round of the 2003 NFL Draft, later playing for the Cleveland Browns and the CFL's Toronto Argonauts before retiring in 2010. Walters played college football for Stanford University, was a consensus All-American and was recognized as the most outstanding college wide receiver in the country by winning the Biletnikoff Award.
