Martin Hancock (born 6 September 1973) is an English actor best known for his roles as Geoffrey "Spider" Nugent in the English soap Coronation Street (between 1997 and 2003 and again from 2022 and 2023) and as Reg Lund in Holby City .
Hancock was born on 6 September 1973 in Fulham to an English father and a New Zealand mother. [1] He attended Drayton Manor High School in West London and trained at the Drama Centre London.
Hancock has had roles in a number of English television series, including BBC's This Life and the ITV1 cult drama Demons . He has also had film roles in 24 Hour Party People , Chasing Liberty (2004), Kingdom of Heaven (2005) and Defiance (2008), as well as in a number of theatre productions. [2]
However, his most famous role remains that of Emily Bishop's eco-warrior nephew, Geoffrey "Spider" Nugent, in the long-running ITV soap Coronation Street . Hancock left the show as a regular in 2000, feeling that his character of Spider had run its course. [3]
It was announced in May 2022, that Hancock is to return to the programme and reprise the role of Spider in July 2022.
In 2007, he appeared as himself on an episode of Celebrity MasterChef.
He lives in London with his wife, and is a supporter of West Ham United F.C. [4]

Coronation Street is a British television soap opera created by Granada Television and shown on ITV since 9 December 1960. The programme centres on a cobbled, terraced street in the fictional town of Weatherfield in Greater Manchester. The location was itself based on Salford, the hometown of the show's first screenwriter and creator.
Geoffrey William Hughes DL was an English actor. Hughes provided the voice of Paul McCartney in the animated film Yellow Submarine (1968), and rose to fame for portraying bin man Eddie Yeats in the long-running British soap opera Coronation Street from 1974 to 1983, making a return to the show in 1987. He is well known for playing loveable slob Onslow in the British sitcom Keeping Up Appearances (1990–1995); and "Twiggy" in the sitcom The Royle Family, playing the part from 1998 to 2008.

Emily Bishop is a fictional character from the British ITV soap opera Coronation Street. Portrayed by Eileen Derbyshire, the character is the longest-standing female character in the serial, having first appeared on-screen during the fourth episode on 21 December 1960, played by an uncredited walk on actress. From January 1961 onwards, she was played by Eileen Derbyshire. Derbyshire announced in November 2015 that she would be taking a retirement from the show and Emily departed on New Year's Day 2016 after 55 years on screen. It was announced on 9 August 2019 that Derbyshire had agreed to briefly reprise the role. She made a brief cameo on 9 October 2019 for Ken Barlow's 80th birthday celebration.

Toyah and her family were introduced to the serial by executive producer Brian Park in a bid to increase falling ratings. Actress and singer Toyah Willcox gave the producers permission to name the youngest member of the Battersby family after herself, since the character was said to be born during the height of her career. Taylor originally auditioned for the part of Zoe Tattersall, but was cast as Toyah instead. The role marked her acting debut. She made her first screen appearance during the episode broadcast on 4 July 1997.
