Martin Knudsen (born 4 January 1978) is a former footballer from Bergen who played as a midfielder.

He started his senior career in Viking FK.

He came to SK Brann on a free transfer in 2000. [3] Knudsen played over a hundred league matches for the club and played in many different positions on the pitch. [3] He has silver and bronze medals from the Norwegian Tippeligaen and played one of his best matches in his career when Brann won the 2004 cup final against F.C. Lyn Oslo.[ citation needed ]

At the end of November 2006, Brann was approached by Molde FK,[ citation needed ] Sandefjord Fotball [ citation needed ] and Tromsø IL,[ citation needed ] who all wanted to sign him. Molde later withdrew their offer as they could not afford Knudsen's demanded salary. On 5 December 2006, Knudsen agreed to Tromsø's offer, and played in Tromsø from January 2007. [4] Knudsen choose to leave Tromsø after the 2009 season. He subsequently turned down an offer from newly promoted Norwegian Premier League club Kongsvinger IL as he wanted to live close to his home place, [5] and went on to play for the third division team Staal instead.

The 2012 season was Molde's 5th consecutive year in Tippeligaen, and their 36th season in the top flight of Norwegian football. It was Ole Gunnar Solskjær's second season as the club's manager. Molde were defending champions in Tippeligaen and played through qualification for UEFA Champions League. Molde entered the Champions League in the second qualifying round, where they eliminated Ventspils before and facing Basel of Switzerland in the third qualifying round. They lost 1–2 on aggregate and were knocked out, dropping down into the Play off round of the UEFA Europa League. The 2012 season was Brann's 26th consecutive year in Tippeligaen, It was Rune Skarsfjord's second full season as the club's manager. Brann competed in the Tippeligaen, finishing 6th, and the 2012 Norwegian Football Cup where they were knocked out by eventual winners IL Hødd at the semi-final stage.

The 2015 Tippeligaen was the 71st completed season of top-tier football in Norway. The competition began on 6 April 2015, one week later than in the previous season. A short summer-break in June was scheduled between the rounds played on 12 July and 26 July, and the decisive match was played on 8 November 2015. Molde were the defending champions. Sandefjord, Tromsø and Mjøndalen joined as the promoted clubs from the 2014 1. divisjon. They replaced Brann, Sogndal and Sandnes Ulf who were relegated to the 2015 1. divisjon.
