Martin Marshall

Martin Marshall CBE (born 2 September 1961) is a British medical academic and a general practitioner. He was chair of the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) from 2019 until 2022. [1] He works as a GP in Newham, East London. [2]

Career

He was appointed as a deputy Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for England in March 2006, [3] In late 2007 he left this post and was director of clinical quality of the Health Foundation. [4]

In October 2016 he was elected as the RCGP's Vice Chair for External Affairs. [5] In July 2019, he became the Chair elect of the RCGP council, to succeed Helen Stokes-Lampard. [6] In November 2019 he took up role of Chair of RCGP for a three year term. [7] He also holds a Professorship in Health Care Improvement at University College London. [8]

Marshall was also a 1998-1999 Harkness Fellow, spending a year researching health policy in the United States. [9]

Awards and honours

He was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for services to healthcare in the 2005 Birthday Honours. [10]

He received the John Fry Award and the James MacKenzie Award, from the Royal College of General Practitioners for contribution to research, in 2005 and 2008 respectively. [11]

Sir Terence John Stephenson, is a Northern Irish consultant paediatric doctor and chair of the Health Research Authority (HRA). He is also the Nuffield Professor of Child Health at University College London (UCL). Stephenson was most notable for guiding the RCPCH in agreeing 10 published national standards, Facing the Future: Standards for Paediatric Services. This was the first time the College committed publicly to a defined set of standards for all children receiving inpatient care or assessment across the UK.

Miles Bradley Mack is a British medical doctor who was chair of the Scottish Academy 2019–2022 and was chair of the Scottish council of the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) 2014–2017. He works as a general practitioner in Dingwall in the north of Scotland.

She is Chair of the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges (AoMRC) a GP principal and Chair of the National Academy for Social Prescribing (NASP). She was Chair of the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) from November 2016 to November 2019. She is also a professor of GP Education at Birmingham University and holds a visiting chair at St George's, University of London.

Richard Scott was a Scottish medical doctor who was the first professor of general practice. He worked as an academic general practitioner (GP) in Edinburgh. He was involved with setting up the first ever university general practice in 1948, developed the University of Edinburgh's general practice teaching unit and in 1963 was appointed to the first academic chair in general practice.
