<span class="mw-page-title-main">Zdravljica</span> 1848 poem by France Prešeren

"Zdravljica" is a carmen figuratum poem by the 19th-century Romantic Slovene poet France Prešeren, inspired by the ideals of Liberté, égalité, fraternité. It was written in 1844 and published with some changes in 1848. Four years after it was written, Slovenes living within Habsburg Empire interpreted the poem in spirit of the 1848 March Revolution as political promotion of the idea of a united Slovenia. In it, the poet also declares his belief in a free-thinking Slovene and Slavic political awareness. In 1989, it was adopted as the anthem of Slovenia, becoming the national anthem upon independence in 1991.

The Cankar Centre or Cankar Hall is the largest Slovenian convention, congress and culture center. The building was designed by the architect Edvard Ravnikar and was built at the southern edge of Republic Square in Ljubljana between 1977 and 1982. Construction was funded entirely by the Socialist Republic of Slovenia.

Sebastijan Pregelj is a Slovenian writer. In the second half of the 1990s Sebastijan Pregelj (b.1970) called attention to himself with his collections of short stories. During the last ten years, he has undoubtedly proven his mastery of storytelling with his novels. Five of them earned him nominations for Best Novel of the Year Award. A wide variety of readers is drawn to his novels because of their broad and rich historical background, intertwined with legends as well as present-day reality that manage to combine the magical with the spiritual and the mystical. In 2020 Pregelj won The Cankar Prize, a new literature award for the most original piece of literature from the previous year - either fiction, play, essay or poetry, for »V Elvisovi Sobi«, a novel about a generation which was growing up while the former Yugoslavia was slowly disintegrating. Sebastijan Pregelj has been featured in several anthologies in the Slovene, Slovak, German, Polish and English language. He is a member of the Slovenian Writers’ Association and Slovene PEN centre. He lives and works in Ljubljana.

The Slovene Covenant was an underground anti-communist organisation formed in Slovenia in April 1942 by a number of non-communist political parties after the killing of Avgust Praprotnik (1891–1942) by operatives from the Security and Intelligence Service, a forerunner of the Yugoslav secret police. It "adopted a political programme that strongly echoed the political positions of the OF". In 1943 anti-communist forces including the Slovene Covenant engaged in armed conflict against Partisan forces in the country and were defeated.

The Slovenia Times is an online news magazine about Slovenia that is run by the Slovenian Press Agency. It started out as a monthly print magazine published in Ljubljana, Slovenia, between 2003 and 2020, when it became an online-only publication.

The Hermagoras Society is Slovenia's oldest publishing house and has branches in Klagenfurt (Austria), Celje (Slovenia), and Gorizia (Italy). Named after Catholic Saint Hermagoras of Aquileia it originated on July 27, 1851 at the behest of Bishop Anton Martin Slomšek for the purpose of instructing Slovenes in reading and writing. Authorities formally recognized the organization in 1853 and in 1871 association opened its new building and publishing house. By 1918 the society had over 90,000 members and had published more than 16.3 million books. Following the results of the 1920 Carinthian plebiscite the seat was transferred from Klagenfurt to Celje. In 1940 during World War II both the Klagenfurt and Celje locations were closed down by the Nazis, who confiscated the printing presses and destroyed books.
