Mary Ann Carson is a former member of the Connecticut House of Representatives.
Carson and her husband Douglas have two daughters, Denise Cocozza and Natalie Venskus. She has three grandchildren, Trevor Cocozza, Kevin Cocozza and Luke Venskus. She resides in New Fairfield, Connecticut. [1]
Carson was first elected to the House of Representatives in a special election in 1999. She was re-elected in 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2008. Carson is a Republican. [2]
Julia May Carson was an American politician who served as a member of the United States House of Representatives for Indiana's 7th congressional district from 1997 until she died in 2007. Carson was the first woman and first African American to represent Indianapolis in the U.S. Congress. She was also the second African American woman elected to Congress from Indiana, after Katie Hall, and her grandson André Carson succeeded to her seat following her death.

She was the first woman elected governor in Connecticut and the fourth woman to be elected governor of a U.S. state. She is also the first female governor to not be the spouse or widow of a former governor. She resigned as governor due to her battle with ovarian cancer.

Truman Smith was a Whig member of the United States Senate from Connecticut from 1849 to 1854 and a member of the United States House of Representatives from Connecticut's 4th and 5th congressional districts from 1839 to 1843 and from 1845 to 1849.
