Mary Paula Kebirungi Turyahikayo also known as Turyahikayo Kebirungi Mary Paula (born 15 January 1961) is a Ugandan politician and Social Scientist. [1] She is the woman Member of Parliament representative for Rubabo County, Rukungiri District under the National Resistance Movement political party ticket. [1] [2] [3] [4] She was the aspirant for 2021-2026 Mp for Rubabo county but lost the election with only 20,287 votes. [5]

Education background

In 1974, she joined St Theresa Primary School for her Primary Leaving Examinations and later joined Immaculate Heart Girls Senior Secondary School to obtain her Uganda Certificate of Education in 1978. [1] She was awarded Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education from Kibuli S.S in 1980 and was admitted at Makerere University to acquire her bachelor's degree of Arts in Social Sciences (Political Science, Sociology) [6] in 1984. [1] In 1997, she had a Postgraduate Certificate in Management from Uganda Management Institute. [1] Mary later returned to Uganda Management Institute to acquire her Post graduate Diploma in Management (2000) and Master of Public Health Leadership(2009). [1]

Career before politics

She was the Teacher/ Head, History Department at Baptist High School, Mombasa, Kenya(1986-1988) and Afraha High School, Nakuru, Kenya (1988-1990). [1] In 1994, she joined Africa Science Technology Exchange as the Programme Associate and later joined Ministry of Health and served as the Administrator (1998-2004) and Assistant Coordinator, Public Sector(2004-2005). [1] She was also employed as the Assistant Public Sector Coordinator for the Global Fund to fight AIDS, TB, Malaria (2004 - 2005) and Research Assistant at African Energy Policy Research Network, and a History and Geography teacher in Kenyan schools. [6]

Political life

From 2006 to 2021, she served as the Member of Parliament at the Parliament of Uganda in the eighth, ninth and tenth Parliament. [1] [7] She defeated Makerere University Chancellor and former minister, Prof. Mondo Kagonyera, to become Rubabo MP in 2001. [6]

While at the Parliament of Uganda, she served on additional roles as the member on Committee on Commissions, State Authorities and State Enterprises and Business Committee. [1]

Personal life

She is married. [1] Her hobbies are Listening to Gospel, Visiting friends, Travelling and Debating. [1] She has special interests in Promoting health services and Youth women empowerment. [1]

Rosemary Bikaako Tumusiime is a Ugandan marketing professional, public administrator, feminist and politician. She is the elected Member of Parliament for Entebbe Municipality and is a representative for NRM, the ruling political party in Uganda. She is the first female representative for the constituency in over three decades and succeeded Muhammad Kawuma who served for two consecutive terms from 2006 to 2016. In the 10th Parliament, she serves as a member of the Committee on Equal Opportunities and the Committee on Presidential Affairs. She is also a member of the NRM Parliamentary Caucus, the Buganda Parliamentary Caucusand the treasurer of the Network for African Women Ministers and Parliamentarians (NAWMP).

Naome Kibaaju is a Ugandan management personnel and a politician in the 10th Parliament of Uganda. She is the woman member of parliament of Sheema County North, Sheema District. She belongs to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) political party.

Veronica Namaganda Nanyondo is a Ugandan politician who represents Bukomansimbi District. She belongs to National Unity Platform (NUP). Nanyondo began her political career in December 2015 under the Democratic Party(DP) ticket after being inspired by her sister Suzan Namaganda who died in road accident. Prossy Akampurira Mbabazi is a Ugandan politician and woman member of parliament. In 2016, she was elected as a woman representative in parliament for Rubanda district, re-elected for the 2nd term in office in the 2021 Uganda General elections.

Pauline Kemirembe Kyakaalso known as Pauline Kyaka, is a Ugandan politician and teacher. She is the district woman representative of Lyantonde District in the 10th Parliament of Uganda. The incumbent Woman member of parliament, Grace Namara Lutemba lost to Pauline Kyaka, her NRM rival.

Dr. Lillian Aber is the women's representative for Kitgum District in the eleventh Parliament of Uganda. She represented the National Resistance Movement under re-elected President of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni. In the 2021 general election, Dr.Aber won with 41,192 votes against Roselyn Alanyo Olobo of the Uganda People's Congress and Norah Odokorach, an independent candidate.

Agnes Taaka also known as Taaka Agnes Wejuli is a Ugandan politician, Social Worker, and legislator. She is the district woman representative of Bugiri District. She served in the ninth, tenth and eleventh Parliament of Uganda as the Member of Parliament. She belongs to the ruling political party, National Resistance Movement. She is the current Woman Member of Parliament of Bugiri District in period(2021-2026) after being declared as winner in the just concluded presidential and parliamentary elections in Uganda.

Jalia Bintu also known as Bintu Lukumu Ngonzi Abwooli Jalia is a female Ugandan politician and social worker/teacher affiliated to the National Resistance Movement political party. She is the district woman representative of Masindi district who has served in the eighth, ninth, and tenth Parliaments of Uganda.

Florence Namayanja is a female Ugandan politician and district woman representative of Bukoto County East, Masaka District. She was affiliated to the Democratic Party political party and now affiliated to National Unity Platform in the 11th Parliament. In the 11th Parliament, she stood as the Candidate for LC5 Chairperson for Masaka City under the National Unity Platform although she lost the elections. She was the winner of Masaka city mayoral seat after defeating seven candidates including business tycoon, Emmanuel Lwasa with 28,824 votes.

Silas Aogon is a male Ugandan Accountant and Member of Parliament of Kumi Municipality, Kumi District. He has served in the tenth and eleventh Parliament of Uganda as an independent politician.
