The Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks men's basketball team is the basketball team that represents University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Princess Anne, Maryland, United States.

History

UMES is the only HBCU men's basketball team to have ever been ranked in the men's AP top 25 poll, coming in at number 20 in the 1973-74 season after winning their first 20 games. [2]

The school's team currently competes in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. [3] They have never played in the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament. The Hawks are led by head coach Cleo Hill Jr.. [4]

Cleo Hill was an American professional basketball player who was selected by the St. Louis Hawks in the first round of the 1961 NBA draft. A 6 ft 1 in (1.85 m) guard from Newark, New Jersey and the Winston-Salem State University, Hill played in the National Basketball Association for one season with the Hawks, in 1961–62, averaging 5.5 points in 58 games. Hill was only the fifth African-American from an historically Black college and university to be taken in the first round of an NBA draft.

Hawk Stadium is a baseball venue in Princess Anne, Maryland, United States. It is home to the Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks baseball team of the NCAA Division I Northeast Conference.
