Mashiur Rahman is a Bangladesh Awami League politician,former secretary and currently,the economic affairs adviser to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina. [2] [3]
Mashiur Rahman was a former officer of CSP. After the end of 1971 Liberation War,he joined as the private secretary to President Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. During his service period,he was posted in various posts of the central government as secretaries. He was the chairman of National Board of Revenue and secretary of Internal Resources Division. After the victory of Awami League in 7th national general election held in June 1996,he was posted as the secretary of Economic Relations Division. Rahman retired from the service in 2001.
Rahman has voiced support for Rampal Power Plant in the Sundarbans. [4] He is the incumbent economic affairs adviser (Cabinet Minister rank) to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. [5] He was the chief election commissioner in the Awami League council elections in October 2016. [6] He was accused of being involved in the Padma Bridge Scandal. [7] Later the accusation was acquitted by a Canadian court finding no proof of any corruption regarding Padma Bridge scandal. [8] He was appointed to an adviser post in 2014 with the rank of a minister. [9]

General elections were held in Bangladesh on 29 December 2008. The two main parties in the election were the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP),led by Khaleda Zia,and the Bangladesh Awami League Party,led by Sheikh Hasina. The 2006–2008 Bangladeshi political crisis began as a caretaker government (CTG) assumed power at the end of October 2006 following the end of term of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party administration. The BNP government increased the chief justice's retirement age in an unconstitutional way to bias the appointment of the head of the caretaker government. CTG manages the government during the interim 90-day period and parliamentary elections. Political conflict began with the alleged appointment of a Chief Advisor,a role which devolved to the President,Dr. Iajuddin Ahmed. The interim period was marked from the beginning by violent protests initiated by the Awami League named Logi Boitha Andolan,with 40 people killed and hundreds injured in the first month. The Bangladesh Nationalist Party had its own complaints about the process and the opposition.

Mashiur Rahman,also known as Jadu Mia,was a senior minister,with the rank and status of prime minister in charge of the Ministry of Railways,Roads and Highways of Bangladesh from 29 June 1978 to 12 March 1979. He was the founder of Bangladesh Jatyiotabadi Dal,the whole process of transition to multi-party democracy was his brainchild. He named the party and the election symbol was given to the party from his party NAP. He also made the formal Declaration of Independence of Bangladesh from his party NAP,on the 23 March 1971,when Sheikh Mujib was still negotiating for the premiership of Pakistan with the military junta of Pakistan,not giving the formal declaration despite people's determination for a free,independent country.
