In 1973, officials at the school allowed students to refuse to pledge allegiance to the American flag. The Connecticut Veterans of Foreign Wars objected to this decision. [4]

Renovations were conducted in 1977 and 2004, the latter adding an additional wing. [5] [6]

In 2005, the gymnasium was renamed "David Strong Gymnasium." [7] On May 9, 2017, the track surrounding the newly constructed turf field was dedicated as the Edmund Butler Track.

Since 2011, the addition has housed the Jockey Hollow STEM Academy for students grades 6 through 8. [8]
