The South West Africa People’s Organisation (SWAPO), officially known as SWAPO Party of Namibia, is a political party and former independence movement in Namibia. It has been the governing party in Namibia since the country achieved independence in 1990. The party continues to be dominated in number and influence by the Ovambo ethnic group.

Clara ǁGowases is a Namibian teacher and politician. Gowases was elected the chairperson of the Republican Party in September 2009 and subsequently listed second on the party's electoral list for the 2009 general election. Gowases missed out on being elected to the National Assembly as the party only won a single seat. In the February 2010 regional elections, Gowases ran to represent Windhoek Rural in the Regional Council of Khomas Region and was narrowly defeated by SWAPO's Frederick Arie. In March 2011, party president and National Assembly member Henk Mudge resigned and Gowases replaced him in both posts. She was a teacher by profession.
Ong Ye Kung is a Singaporean politician who has served as the Minister for Transport since 27 July 2020. He also served as the Minister of Education from 1 October 2015 to 26 July 2020. From 1 October 2015 to 30 April 2018, he served alongside Ng Chee Meng. He was in charge of Higher Education and Skills while Ng Chee Meng was in charge of Schools. On 1 May 2018, the position was merged again into a single ministerial portfolio. He has also been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Sembawang Central ward in the Sembawang GRC since 11 September 2015.
Miguel Mario Díaz-Canel Bermúdez is a Cuban politician serving as the President of Cuba since 10 October 2019. He was previously President of the Council of State of Cuba from 2018 to 2019 and First Vice President from 2013 to 2018. He has been a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of Cuba since 2003, and he served as Minister of Higher Education from 2009 to 2012; he was promoted to the post of Vice President of the Council of Ministers in 2012. A year later, on 24 February 2013, he was elected as First Vice President of the Council of State.He was selected to succeed Raúl Castro as the candidate for President of the Council of State and the Council of Ministers on 18 April 2018 and was sworn into office the following day after nationwide polling. His two predecessors in the role were brothers, by blood, and notably his succession from Raúl Castro represents a clearly non-dynastic form of succession for the Communist Party as well as the Republic of Cuba. Díaz-Canel is therefore the first president to not be a Castro family member since Osvaldo Dorticós in 1976 and the first leader of the government who is not a Castro since José Miró Cardona in 1959. Miguel Díaz-Canel is likely to succeed Raúl Castro as First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba, the most powerful position of Cuba, in 2021.
Kailash Vijayvargiya is an Indian politician serving as national general secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He started his political career in the Indore Bharatiya Janata Party, and was the mayor of Indore, a six-time legislator who has never lost an assembly election, and a state government cabinet minister for over 12 years before being elevated to the party's central leadership.
General elections were held in Namibia on 27 November 2019. Ballots were cast using electronic voting. A total of eleven candidates ran for the presidency and fifteen political parties contested the National Assembly elections.
Wouter Wynand Wessels is a South African politician and a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa for the Freedom Front Plus. He took office as an MP on 1 December 2017 and succeeded the former party leader Pieter Mulder, who resigned from Parliament a day earlier. Wessels is married to fellow FF Plus MP Tammy Wessels.
Marshall Mzingisi Dlamini is a South African businessman and politician who was elected the Secretary-General of the Economic Freedom Fighters in December 2019. He has been serving as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa since April 2015. Dlamini has been an EFF member since its inception in July 2013.
Julius Hamunyera Hambyuka is a Namibian politician who has served as a Member of the National Assembly of Namibia since March 2015. A member of the ruling SWAPO party, he was appointed the Government Chief Whip of the National Assembly in March 2020.
Hlengiwe Octavia Mkhaliphi is a South African politician who has been serving as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa since May 2014. Mkhaliphi is a member of the Economic Freedom Fighters and the party's inaugural deputy secretary-general.
