The music of Greece is as diverse and celebrated as its history. Greek music separates into two parts: Greek traditional music and Byzantine music. These compositions have existed for millennia: they originated in the Byzantine period and Greek antiquity; there is a continuous development which appears in the language, the rhythm, the structure and the melody. Music is a significant aspect of Hellenic culture, both within Greece and in the diaspora.
Rock and roll entered Greece in the middle of the 1960s. Greek rock performers in the field include Pavlos Sidiropoulos, Dimitris Poulikakos. Greek rock bands well known globally are Aphrodite's Child, Socrates Drank the Conium and The Last Drive.

Alex Kavvadias is a rock music artist based in Athens, Greece. Kavvadias spent most of his life in Australia before moving to Athens. He was previously the lead singer for the popular Greek rock band Matisse. Kavvadias was also lead vocalist on the album ‘Rock & Roll Mafia’. He recorded two duets for the album; one with Australian artist Lenka Kripac and the other with Johnette Napolitano from the band Concrete Blonde.
Aris Basketball Club known in European competitions as Aris Thessaloniki, is the professional basketball team of the major Thessaloniki-based Greek multi-sport club A.C. Aris Thessaloniki. Aris BC was founded in 1922, eight years after the founding of the multi-sport club and the football team. Their traditional home arena is Alexandreio Melathron.
Emmones Idees is the thirteenth studio album by Greek artist, Katy Garbi. It was released on 15 October 2003 by Sony Music Greece and certified gold in a week, but after a month received platinum certification, selling over 50,000 units*. The first single "Na Pernas" and precursor to the album was released over one month prior to the release of the album, which itself was initially scheduled to be released in September, but it was delayed to October, containing many of her most successful songs like "Na Pernas", "Antres", "Esena Mono" and "Poso Tha 'Thela". "Ilios I Vrohi" is a cover of Youm Wara Youm, previously recorded and performed as a duet by Samira Said and Cheb Mami. It was available in two different versions: a standard 16-track version, and a "Limited Edition" packaged with a bonus DVD including Mia Kardia's music videos along with biography, discography and photos. Giannis Doulamis with Dewar's whiskey, a main sponsor of the album, organized a big celebration for the presentation of Katy's new gold album as well as the multi-platinum award for her previous albums.

It was released on 8 October 1993 by Sony Music Greece and soon certified gold, but after months received platinum certification, selling over 60,000 units*. The album was written by various artists and contains four songs written by Phoebus, marking their first studio collaboration. It also contains "Ellada, Hora Tou Fotos" with which she represented Greece at Eurovision Song Contest 1993, a remix of the track.
Socrates Drank the Conium, known also as Socrates, is a Greek rock band that formed in 1969 and achieved success in the 1970s. Influenced by heavy blues and rock bands like The Jimi Hendrix Experience and Cream, the band melded the unorthodox time signatures and orchestration of progressive rock and the intensity of blues and hard rock music, creating a unique sound that distinguished them from other Greek rock acts of that period. Outside Greece, Socrates is best known for Phos, their 1976 landmark collaboration album with Vangelis.

It was re-released with four new songs and a bonus DVD, and renamed Special Edition: Stin Avli Tou Paradeisou on 7 December 2005. With the combination of both releases, the album certified double-platinum in Greece.

They play post, stoner and psychedelic rock with a large dose of Greek folk music from the region of Epirus. The regional musical tradition is characterized by polyphony, specific rhythms and tunes, and the use of clarinet, kaval, and bagpipe. The band fuses this unique folk music with modern psychedelic forms, creating a sound where the dominant solo instrument is the clarinet. They have played in the biggest rock festivals and in numerous sold-out shows in the biggest music scenes in Greece.
