Matt Bush (born 22 December 1988) is a Welsh para taekwondo practitioner who competes in the F44 classification in the +80 kg category. Bush, who does not have a left hand and forearm, is a two-time champion at the World Para Taekwondo Championships.

Career

Prior to his para taekwondo career, Bush was a javelin thrower. He had been set to make his Paralympic debut at the 2016 Summer Paralympics but he withdrew due to a shoulder injury. [1] Shortly afterward, he switched to para taekwondo. [2]

At the 2019 World Championships, Bush won the gold medal to become Britain's first world champion in para taewkwondo. [3] [4] He was named to the national para taekwondo squad at the rescheduled 2020 Summer Paralympics in 2021 in para taekwondo. [5] However he was forced to withdraw after he had injured his ACL and was replace by his teammate Joe Lane. [6] [7] At the 2023 European Para Championships, Bush won the silver medal after losing to Ivan Mikulić in the gold medal match. [8] At the World Championships in September 2023, he won his second gold medal. [9]

Bush competed in the 2024 European Taekwondo Championships, where he won the gold medal in his category. [10] The following month, he was announced as one of three members and the only male of the British para taekwondo team for the 2024 Summer Paralympics. [11] Bush defeated Neutral Paralympic athlete Aliaskhab Ramazanov in the men's K44 +80 kg final to claim gold at the 2024 Paralympics Games in Paris, France. [12] He was chosen as one of Great Britain's flagbearers for the closing ceremony alongside swimmer Poppy Maskill. [13]

Millicent Genevieve Knight is a British skier and student who competes at international level for ParalympicsGB in alpine skiing in the slalom, giant slalom Super-G, super combined and Downhill events with a sighted guide, Brett Wild. When Knight was one year old, she contracted an illness, diagnosed at age three, which resulted in the loss of most of her vision by the age of six. She joined the Great Britain Paralympic skiing team in 2012, and progressed to compete at international-level events. Knight was the British flagbearer at Sochi in 2014 – her debut Paralympics - where, at the age of 15, she was the youngest person ever to compete for ParalympicsGB at the Winter Games. In the same year Knight also became an Honorary Doctor of the University of Kent.

Tully Alicia Jacqueline Kearney is a British Paralympic swimmer. Kearney currently competes in the S5/SB4/SM5 classification for swimmers with physical disabilities. She won gold and silver at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games and followed this up at the Paris 2024 Games with two further gold medals, including retaining her 100 m freestyle S5 title. Since first competing at the World Para Swimming Championships in 2013 she has won thirteen World Championship medals, ten of which are gold. Kearney is a multiple British, European and World record holder.

Jonathan Broom-Edwards is a British para-sport athlete who competes mainly in the T44/T64 classification High Jump. Born with clubbed foot, he was a county level basketball player who found Para-High Jump after 2012.

Zac Shaw is a British Paralympic visually impaired sprinter who competes in the T12 classification. At the age of nine he became afflicted with stargardt disease. He made his first Great Britain squad for the IPC Athletics World Championships in 2015. Shaw made the Great Britain squad for the 2024 Summer Paralympics in Paris after just missing out on both the 2016 Summer Paralympics and 2020 Summer Paralympics.

Nathan Maguire is a British wheelchair racer. He won multiple medals at both the 2018 and 2021 World Para Athletics European Championships, and also won the 400 metres mixed class race at multiple British Athletics Championships. Maguire competed in the 4 × 400 metres relay T53/T54 at the 2016 Summer Paralympics, and competed in the 400 metres T54, 800 metres T54 and mixed 4 × 100 metres relay events at the delayed 2020 Summer Paralympics. He was part of the British team that won a silver medal in the 2020 Paralympic mixed 4 × 100 metres relay. He also competed for England at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, and won the 1500 metres T54 event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Guljonoy Naimova is an Uzbekistani para taekwondo practitioner. She won the gold medal in the women's +58 kg event at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo, Japan.

Poppy Willow Maskill is a British Paralympic swimmer. Maskill competes in the S14, SM14 and SB14 classifications for swimmers with intellectual impairments. She won three gold and two silver medals at the 2024 Summer Paralympics in Paris, making her ParalympicsGB's most successful athlete at the Games.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Asadbek Toshtemirov</span> Uzbekistani parataekwondo practitioner (born 2002)

Asadbek Toshtemirov is an Uzbekistani para-taekwondo practitioner who competes in the F44 classification in the -80 kg category. He is a gold medalist at the 2023 World Para Taekwondo Championships, silver medalist at the 2022 European Taekwondo Championships and bronze medalist at the 2022 Asian Para Games. Since 2018, he has been a member of the Uzbekistan national team in para taekwondo.

Nurlan Dombayev is a Kazakhstani para-taekwondo practitioner who competes in the F44 classification. Having competed in the -75 and later -80 kg category, he is a gold medalist at the 2017 and 2019 World Para Taekwondo Championships, and a bronze medalist at the 2021 European Para Taekwondo Championships and 2022 Asian Para Games.
