Matt Henjak (born 25 November 1981) is an Australian former professional rugby union player. He played scrum-half for the Australian national team. Henjak, of Croatian ancestry, is the nephew of former rugby league half-back and former Brisbane Broncos head coach Ivan Henjak. After being sacked by the Western Force in 2008 for an off field indiscretion, Henjak signed for Toulon in the Top 14 in France where he played until 2012. He played a further season in France with Dax in the Pro D2 competition.

Early career

Henjak was educated at St Edmund's College in Canberra, the same school as Matt Giteau, George Gregan and Ricky Stuart. He played for the Canberra Vikings while playing in the Canberra club competition. In 2001 and 2002 Henjak represented Australia in the under 21 side as well as later playing for Australia A.

Super Rugby

He made his Super 12 debut in 2003, playing for the ACT Brumbies in a match against the Chiefs.

Henjak was called up into the 27-man national squad as cover mid-year 2004 after Elton Flatley broke his arm.^[1] Henjak made his international debut in 2004, on 26 June against England ^[1] where he came off the bench onto the wing with 10 minutes remaining in the game after Clyde Rathbone was injured.

He moved to the new Super 14 team, the Western Force, for the 2006 Super 14 season. In 2008 he was involved in an altercation in which his teammate winger Haig Sare had his jaw broken, requiring surgery to insert a plate. Henjak was dismissed by the Western Force after he was found guilty of involvement in a bar room brawl.^[1]^[3]^[4]

England and France

Henjak went over to England for the latter part of 2004, having a short term stint with Harlequins.

After being sacked from the Western Force in 2008, Henjak was linked to a code-switch to rugby league and a move to the Canberra Raiders,^[5]^[6]^[7] however Toulon gave him the chance to resurrect his rugby union career in France.^[1]^[8] After four seasons with Toulon in the Top 14 competition, he played a further season with Pro D2 Club, Dax, in the second tier professional competition before retiring from professional rugby.

Controversies

During his playing career, Henjak was linked with a series of scandals. In 2004, he was involved in an altercation in South Africa, in which the complainant was secretly paid A$16,000 to drop assault charges.^[1]^[9]

An Australia and Tonga international and New South Wales State of Origin representative forward, he played in the National Rugby League for the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, the Sydney Roosters, the North Queensland Cowboys, the Newcastle Knights and the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles. Mason also played in the Super League for English club Hull Kingston Rovers and French club, the Catalans Dragons. He also played rugby union in the Top 14 for French club RC Toulonnais. During his career Mason was involved in a number of controversial off-field incidents which have received media publicity due to his high profile in the NRL.

Matthew Orford, also known by the nickname of "The Ox", is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 2000s and 2010s. He played for the Gosford Townies as a junior. A City New South Wales representative halfback, he played the majority of his club football career in Australia for National Rugby League clubs Melbourne Storm and Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles, representing the latter when he won 2008's Dally M Medal and NRL premiership. Orford also played for NRL sides Northern Eagles and Canberra Raiders, as well as in Super League for England's Bradford Bulls.

Matthew James Giteau is an Australian rugby union professional player who plays for San Diego Legion of Major League Rugby (MLR).

Ryan Cross is a former Rugby Union footballer for Racing Metro 92 after signing from USA Perpignan in the French Top 14. Matt Adamson is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1990s and 2000s. A New South Wales State of Origin and Australian international representative second-row, he played club football in Australia with the Parramatta Eels, Penrith Panthers and Canberra Raiders, and in England with Leeds. Adamson started his career as a fullback or positions, and was moved into the forwards by Penrith coach Royce Simmons, in 1996.

Matt Gafa is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1990s and 2000s. He was a Malta international. He last played for Harlequins RL in the Super League. He had previously played for the Canberra Raiders in the NRL and has also played in Elite One Championship in France. Gafa's usual position was as a centre. He could also operate on the wing. In 2007, he has moved into the forwards in the second-row, and has also operated at loose forward. In the past he had also operated in the stand-off role.

A New South Wales Country representative half back, Henjak played his club football in the NSWRL premiership with the St. George Dragons, Canberra Raiders and Western Suburbs Magpies, and later in England with Hull FC.

Luke Williamson is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1990s and 2000s. He is now coach of the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles' NSW Cup team after previously coaching the team in 2011 and being the coach of Manly Warringah Sea Eagles Toyota Cup (Under-20s) team in the 2012 competition. His playing career was spent with the Adelaide Rams, the Canberra Raiders, the Northern Eagles and the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles in the National Rugby League and for the Harlequins RL in the Super League.

Peter Mulholland was an Australian rugby league football coach. Anthony Griffin is an Australian professional rugby league coach who was most recently the head coach of the St George Illawarra Dragons in the NRL.

Ian Prior is an Australian-born Zimbabwe international rugby union player who previously played for the Western Force in Super Rugby AU and Super Rugby Trans-Tasman. He previously played for the Force, Reds and Brumbies teams in Australia at Super Rugby level, as well as for English club Harlequins. Prior's usual position is scrum-half but he can also play fly-half.
