Matthew Kennard (born 12 February 1982) is an English actor, known for his role as nurse Archie Hallam in the BBC soap opera Doctors . [1]

Career

Kennard was born in Grimsby, Humberside. Kennard has played roles in soap operas including Coronation Street , Hollyoaks and Doctors . [2] He also starred as Manchester United footballer Duncan Edwards in a BBC dramatisation of the Munich air disaster. [3] [4] One of Kennard's earlier roles was in the series Love in the 21st Century, broadcast on Channel 4 in 1999 and created by Red Productions, who were previously responsible for Queer as Folk . Kennard's character is seduced by a school teacher who believes she is giving him experience, although it later transpires he had made a bet that he could sleep with her. [5]

Kennard left a regular role in the soap opera Doctors on 27 April 2009 to concentrate on film work, including featuring in Born of Hope with his brother Sam. [6] Kennard appeared in the seventh series of Waterloo Road as Craig O'Leary. [2]

Kennard appeared as Dave Schmidt in the film Bula Quo! , released in 2013. [7] [8] That same year, he had a short stint in Emmerdale as shady businessman Kirk Stoker. [9] In 2015, Kennard and his twin Sam played twin brothers David and Gabriel Meyer in the BBC TV series WPC 56 . [10] He appeared in CBBC's The Dumping Ground in 2016.

Personal life

Kennard has a twin brother Sam, who is also an actor. [11] He has been married to actress Laura Aikman since 2019; they met when she joined the cast for the final series (2015) of Bluestone 42 . [12]

Hollyoaks began airing on Channel 4 in the United Kingdom on 23 October 1995. The target audience was that of teenagers and it initially dramatised the lives of seven of that age group who lived in Hollyoaks, a fictional suburb in the city of Chester in Cheshire, England.

Laura Rollins is a British-Bajan actress, known for portraying the role of Ayesha Lee on the BBC soap opera Doctors, a role which she played from September 2014 to June 2020. For her portrayal of Ayesha, she won the award for Best Female Dramatic Performance at the RTS Midlands Awards. Since leaving Doctors, Rollins has appeared in various television series including Innocent and Miss Scarlet and The Duke.
