Matthew "Matt" Ramsey (born March 21, 1987) is an American vocal coach, singing teacher, author, and YouTube personality based in Austin, Texas. He is the founder of Ramsey Voice Studio, the manager of a YouTube channel, and the creator of the online vocal training program Master Your Voice and book of the same name. Ramsey specializes in the Speech Level Singing and Institute for Vocal Advancement (IVA) methods and has trained over 2,000 students internationally since 2012.
Ramsey was born on March 21, 1987, and initially pursued a career in advertising. He began his college education at James Madison University in 2005 before transferring to Virginia Commonwealth University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communications with a concentration in advertising in 2009. Vocal coaching beginnings
Ramsey began performing music in the San Francisco train stations (Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART)) but struggled with stage fright and vocal fatigue. Seeking training, he took a lesson in Austin, Texas, with vocal coach Gene Raymond, a certified Speech Level Singing instructor, who became his mentor.[1]
Professional development and certifications
Ramsey pursued certification through Speech Level Singing's "Pre-Cert" program in 2011, then enrolled with the Institute for Vocal Advancement (IVA)[2]. He began as a "Student Teacher" in 2012 and eventually achieved Level III certification. In the same year, he received the "Rising Star" award at the inaugural IVACON conference.[1] He remained with IVA for seven years, leaving in 2020 to focus on his YouTube channel[3] and independent studio.
