Matthew John Ryan (born 13 January 1967) is an Australian former professional rugby union player. [1]

Born in Sydney, Ryan attended Waverley College up until the ninth grade, when he moved to St Joseph's College, Hunters Hill, from where he won Australian Schools representative honours in 1985. [2]

Ryan was a front rower and began in first-grade with West Harbour, before switching states in 1989 to play at Brisbane club Brothers. He earned Queensland selection in 1990 for a tour of Fiji. [2]

Between 1990 and 1992, Ryan made three overseas Wallabies tours without winning a cap. He was unused off the bench in the 1st Test against France at the Sydney Football Stadium in 1990, then missed the remainder of the series with a facial viral infection, after which he won selection for that year's tour of New Zealand. His first Wallabies appearance came in a tour match against Waikato and he sat on the bench as a reserve for all three Tests. He didn't feature in any Wallabies sides during the World Cup year due to an inflamed disc, then returned in 1992 to make the tour of South Africa, followed by a tour Wales and Ireland. [3] During the Ireland tour, Ryan scored Australia's only try in a narrow win over Connacht. [4]

Ryan was a member of the Queensland Reds side that won the 1995 Super 10 title. He remained with the Reds for the first two seasons of the Super 12 competition and later coached Penrith in the Shute Shield. [2]

Simon Paul Poidevin is a former Australian rugby union player. Poidevin made his Test debut for Australia against Fiji during the 1980 tour of Fiji. He was a member of the Wallabies side that defeated New Zealand 2–1 in the 1980 Bledisloe Cup series. He toured with the Eighth Wallabies for the 1984 Australia rugby union tour of Britain and Ireland that won rugby union's "grand slam", the first Australian side to defeat all four home nations, England, Ireland, Wales and Scotland, on a tour. He debuted as captain of the Wallabies in a two-Test series against Argentina in 1986, substituting for the absent Andrew Slack. He was a member of the Wallabies on the 1986 Australia rugby union tour of New Zealand that beat the All Blacks, one of six international teams and second Australian team to win a Test series in New Zealand. During the 1987 Rugby World Cup, he overtook Peter Johnson as Australia's most capped Test player against Japan, captaining the Wallabies for the third time in his 43rd cap. He captained the Wallabies on a fourth and final occasion on the 1987 Australia rugby union tour of Argentina before injury ended his tour prematurely. In 1988, he briefly retired from international rugby, reversing his decision 42 days later ahead of the 1988 Bledisloe Cup series. Following this series, Poidevin returned to the Australian side for the single 1989 Bledisloe Cup Test. He returned full-time to the Australian national squad for the 1991 season. Poidevin was a member of the Wallabies that won the 1991 Rugby World Cup, after which he retired from international rugby union.

Lote Daulako Tuqiri is a former professional dual-code rugby footballer who primarily played as a winger across both codes. He represented Australia in both rugby league and rugby union, and Fiji in rugby league. Tuqiri first rose to prominence as a professional rugby league footballer for the Brisbane Broncos and Queensland Maroons, as well as the Fiji and Australia national sides. He was therefore a high-profile signing for rugby union in 2002, winning 67 caps for Australia and being a part of their 2003 and 2007 World Cup squads. He played rugby union for the Waratahs in the Super 14 and Leicester Tigers in England in season 2009–10. Tuqiri's contract with the Australian Rugby Union was terminated on 1 July 2009. No immediate reason was given, and Tuqiri returned to rugby league in 2010, playing for the Wests Tigers of the NRL. In September 2013, he signed a short-term contract with Irish rugby union giants, Leinster to play in the Pro12 in a three-month deal. Just 6 weeks out from the 2014 NRL season, Tuqiri signed with his third NRL club, the South Sydney Rabbitohs, on a one-year deal.
