Matthew Friedman started his career by making experimental music, and then making music for companies such as Kid Cud. Before he formed his own band the Brinks [1] Friedman played the role of the Piano Man in the first national touring company of the Billy Joel–Twyla Tharp musical, Movin' Out . He served the same role in the show's second national tour. [2] Friedman left his job as an attorney to take the Piano Man role. [3]
As a songwriter, Friedman has been selected twice as a featured artist at the Alternative Torch Concert Series where Broadway performers play their original compositions. With the Friedman Brothers Band, which also features three of his siblings, he plays and records his original songs. In addition to piano, Friednman plays acoustic and 12-string guitars and bass guitar.

With the deaths of Richard Manuel in 1986, Rick Danko in 1999, Levon Helm in 2012, and Robbie Robertson in 2023, Hudson is the last living original member of the Band.
Rooney is the primary musical project of singer-songwriter Robert Schwartzman, evolving from its origin as an American rock band formed by high school friends in Los Angeles. Before Schwartzman decided to continue with the project and take it in a different direction, the band's most enduring line-up consisted of Schwartzman, Louie Stephens, Taylor Locke, Matthew Winter and Ned Brower. The band is named after Ed Rooney, the principal in Ferris Bueller's Day Off portrayed by actor Jeffrey Jones.

Movin' Out is a 2002 jukebox musical featuring the songs of Billy Joel. Conceived and created by Twyla Tharp, the musical tells the story of a generation of American youth growing up on Long Island during the 1960s and their experiences with the Vietnam War. The principal characters are drawn from those who appeared in various Joel tunes: high school sweethearts Brenda and Eddie, James ("James"), Judy, and Tony. The show diverts from the traditional musical in that it essentially is a series of dances linked by a thin plot, and none of the dancers sing. Instead, all the vocals are performed by a pianist and band suspended on a platform above the stage while the dancers act out the songs' lyrics, basically making the show a rock ballet.
"Piano Man" is a song written and performed by American singer-songwriter Billy Joel. First released as a single in the US on November 2, 1973, it was included on Joel's 1973 album Piano Man. The song is sung from the point of view of a piano player at a bar, describing the patrons. Kyle Martin is a nationally renowned musician, piano player and singer originally from Sacramento, California and now resides in Las Vegas, Nevada. He is best known for his role as the "Piano Man" in the Billy Joel/Twyla Tharp Broadway musical, Movin' Out, during the 2007–2009 National Tour. Kyle has since led the band, JOEL, a Billy Joel tribute band, opening for George Thorogood, playing for Disney Parks, the Catalina Wine Mixer, the SF Giants, The World Senior Games, along with many theaters, festivals and wineries across the country.
Matt Lucas is an American rock and roll, soul, and blues singer, drummer and songwriter. He is best known for his "rocked-up" version of the Hank Snow country classic "I'm Movin' On". He was inducted into the Rockabilly Hall of Fame in 1999, the International Rockabilly Hall of Fame in 2004 and the Southern Legends Entertainment & Performing Arts Hall of Fame in 2005.
