Matthew Gilbert High School was a high school for black students in Jacksonville, Florida. Like many black high schools of the time, it was reclassified as a junior high school after integration. It is now Matthew Gilbert Middle School. [2]
The Gilbert Panthers went undefeated (11-0) and won the FIAA State Football championship in 1958. [3]

Robert Lee "Bullet Bob" Hayes was an Olympic gold medalist sprinter who then became an American football wide receiver in the National Football League for the Dallas Cowboys. An American track and field athlete, he was a two-sport stand-out in college in both track and football at Florida A&M University. He has one of the top 100 meter times by NFL players. Hayes was enshrined in the Dallas Cowboys Ring of Honor in 2001 and was selected for induction in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in January 2009. He was officially inducted in Canton, Ohio on August 8, 2009. Hayes is the second Olympic gold medalist to be inducted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, after Jim Thorpe. He once held the world record for the 70-yard dash. He also is tied for the world's second fastest time in the 60-yard dash. He was once considered the "world's fastest human" by virtue of his multiple world records in the 60-yard, 100-yard, 220-yard, and Olympic 100-meter dashes. Hayes tied the world record to win the 100 meters, then anchored the U.S. 4x100-meter relay team that broke the world record. Hayes is the only athlete to win both an Olympic gold medal and a Super Bowl ring. He was inducted into the United States Olympic Hall of Fame.

Frederick Antwon Taylor is a former college and professional American football player who was a running back in the National Football League (NFL) for 13 seasons during the 1990s and 2000s. He played college football for the University of Florida, and was recognized as an All-American. Taylor was selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars with the ninth overall pick in the 1998 NFL Draft, and played for the Jaguars and New England Patriots of the NFL. Taylor is a member of the 10,000 yard rushing club.
The Georgia-Florida football rivalry is an American college football rivalry game played annually by the University of Florida Gators and the University of Georgia Bulldogs, both members of the Eastern Division of the Southeastern Conference. The programs first met in 1904 or 1915 and have played every season since 1926 except for a war-time interruption in 1943. It is one of the most prominent rivalry games in college football, and it has been held in Jacksonville, Florida since 1933, with only two exceptions, making it one of the few remaining neutral-site rivalries in college football. The game attracts huge crowds to Jacksonville, and the associated tailgating and other events earned it the nickname of the "World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party", although that name is no longer used officially.
Ponte Vedra Beach is an unincorporated seaside community in St. Johns County, Florida, United States. The Bolles School is an American private college preparatory day and boarding school in Jacksonville, Florida. It has a lower school, a middle school, and a high school, spread across four campuses around the Jacksonville area, and enrolls about 1,800 students a year. The school was founded in 1933 as an all-boys military academy. It dropped its military focus in 1962 and became coeducational in 1971. Its athletics programs have been recognized as some of the best in the Florida High School Athletic Association by Sports Illustrated magazine.

John Matthew Stafford is an American football quarterback for the Detroit Lions of the National Football League (NFL). He was raised in Highland Park, Texas, where he attended Highland Park High School. In the National Football League, Tebow played for the Denver Broncos and the New York Jets. He is a minor league outfielder in the New York Mets organization. Tebow is known for his outspoken Christian faith as well as his athletic prowess; his practice of genuflecting in prayer on the football field has become known as "Tebowing".
