Matthew Theodore Gregory (born October 29,1968) is a former Attorney General of the Northern Mariana Islands. He was appointed in January 2006 and served until 27 September 2008. After Gregory's departure,he was succeeded as acting Attorney General by Deputy Attorney General Gregory Baka for nearly eleven months. [1] Eventually,Assistant Attorney General Edward Taylor Buckingham,III was confirmed as Attorney General on August 14,2009. [2]
The District Court for the Northern Mariana Islands is a federal territorial court whose jurisdiction comprises the United States-affiliated Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI). It was established by Act of Congress in 1977,pursuant to an international agreement between the United States and the CNMI that brought the CNMI under United States sovereignty. The court began hearing cases in January 1978. The court regularly sits in Saipan but may sit elsewhere in the CNMI. The court has the same jurisdiction as United States district courts,including diversity jurisdiction and bankruptcy jurisdiction. However,the District Court is not an Article III U.S. District Court,and because of that its judge is appointed for a 10-year term instead of for life. Appeals are taken to the Ninth Circuit.
The Democratic Party of the Northern Mariana Islands is a political party in the Northern Mariana Islands. It began as a purely local territorial party and is now officially affiliated with the United States' national Democratic Party.
The Northern Mariana Islands House of Representatives is the lower house of the Northern Mariana Islands Commonwealth Legislature.

Gregorio Kilili Camacho Sablan is a Northern Mariana Islander politician and former election commissioner. Elected in 2008,Sablan became the first delegate to the United States House of Representatives from the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. Sablan is the only Chamorro member of Congress.
The 2009 Northern Mariana Islands general election was held on Saturday,November 7,2009. This was the last general election to be held on a odd year. This election also saw the extension all office holding officials by one year to move the elections to even-years,corresponding with the elections of other federal and state offices,including the nationwide United States House of Representatives elections and the United States general elections. This election also oversaw the first run-off to be held in the Northern Mariana Islands,which were held on Monday,November 23,2009.
The Northern Mariana Islands Football Association (NMIFA) is the governing body of football in the Northern Mariana Islands. It was founded in 2005 by US-Attorney Peter Coleman to replace the now-defunct NMISF,who had aministered the sport on the islands up to around 2002. The Association received associate membership into the East Asian Football Federation in December 2006,with full membership coming in August 2008. The association was admitted as a provisional member of the Asian Football Confederation in July 2009. On 9 December 2020 during the 30th AFC Congress,the Northern Mariana Islands Football Association (NMIFA) became the 47th full member association of the AFC. In October 2021 FIFA Head of MA Governance Rolf Tanner announced at the 11th Northern Mariana Islands Football Association Ordinary Congress that the global organization had received the island's application for membership.

Same-sex marriage was legalized in the Northern Mariana Islands by the U.S. Supreme Court's landmark ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges on June 26,2015,which struck down same-sex marriage bans nationwide. On June 29,Governor Eloy Inos issued a statement hailing the decision as "historic",and said he would work with the Attorney General and local officials to bring the U.S. territory into compliance. Attorney General Edward Manibusan issued a memorandum on June 30 confirming that the territory was bound by the court decision and said that marriage license forms would be changed to include same-sex couples.
Abortion in the Northern Mariana Islands is illegal by legislation,but legal by judicial ruling and legal review. A law passed in 1985 made abortion illegal,but a review by the Attorney General said it was legal in 1995. Women in the 1990s went to the Philippines to get abortions,but went to Japan or Hawaii by 2018 because of changing legality in the region.

The 2022 Northern Mariana gubernatorial election took place on November 8,2022 to elect the governor of the Northern Mariana Islands and the lieutenant governor of the Northern Mariana Islands to a four-year term in office. Because no candidate received 50% of the vote in the general election,the two highest-placing candidates advanced to a runoff election on November 25,2022.
David Mundo Apatang is a Northern Mariana Islander politician who is serving as the 13th lieutenant governor of the Northern Mariana Islands since 2023. He previously served as the mayor of Saipan from January 12,2015 to January 8,2023. As a Republican,Apatang formerly served in the Northern Mariana Islands House of Representatives. Apatang was elected lieutenant governor of the Northern Mariana Islands in the 2022 election on an independent ticket headed by Arnold Palacios.
