Matthew Manfield (born 14 April 1977) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Fitzroy and Richmond in the Australian Football League (AFL). [1]
Recruited to the AFL from the Woodville-West Torrens Football Club, Manfield was selected by Fitzroy with the 24th pick of the 1994 National Draft. [2] He made his debut in the opening round of the 1995 AFL season, against Essendon at Western Oval, but did not feature again that year. [3]
After playing four games in 1996, Manfield entered into the draft again and was signed up by Richmond. He played two games for Richmond in 1997 and another four in 1998. [3]
In 1999 he joined Collingwood but would not play a senior AFL games for the club. [4]
He later played at Glenelg and while with the club in 2003 was diagnosed with testicular cancer. He successfully went through surgery and radiotherapy and he is now the father of twins. [5] [6]
Martin Pike is a former professional Australian rules footballer, who played in four Australian Football League (AFL) premiership sides. Highlights of his career included a premiership with the North Melbourne Football Club, three more with Brisbane, the final AFL best-and-fairest winner with Fitzroy in 1996, and selection in the 1998 South Australian State-Of-Origin side.
Gary Pert is a former Australian rules footballer who represented Fitzroy and Collingwood in the Australian Football League (AFL). Tall, well-built and strong in the air, Pert played over 200 league games, despite suffering two serious knee injuries in the prime years of his career. Early in one season, Pert suffered a bizarre injury when he went to his girlfriend's house for dinner and got a biscuit stuck in his oesophagus. The blockage remained overnight and so the following day he underwent an oesophagoscopy under general anaesthetic. He recovered in time for the Round 5 game against Richmond. He returned in 1989, winning Fitzroy's best and fairest.
