Matti Ensio Nykänen was a Finnish ski jumper who competed from 1981 to 1991. He is one of the most successful ski jumpers of all time, having won five Winter Olympic medals, nine World Championship medals, and 22 Finnish Championship medals. Most notably, he won three gold medals at the 1988 Winter Olympics, becoming, along with Yvonne van Gennip of the Netherlands, the most medaled athlete that winter.

Matti Henrikki Järvinen was a Finnish javelin thrower. Matti Raivio was a Finnish Cross-country skier who won the 30 km and 50 km events at the 1926 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships. At the 1924 Winter Olympics he finished seventh in the 18 km and 50 km races. He abandoned the 50 km event at the 1928 Winter Olympics.

Matti Mattsson is a Finnish swimmer. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, he competed in the Men's 200 metre breaststroke, finishing in 17th place overall in the heats and failing to qualify for the semifinals. In Barcelona at the 2013 Swimming World Championships, he won bronze medal in Men's 200 metre breaststroke. He has qualified to represent Finland at the 2020 Summer Olympics. He won bronze medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Men's 200 metre breaststroke.
