Maureen Boyle (born 1961) is a Northern Irish poet. [1]
Maureen Boyle was born and raised near Strabane in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. Currently, Maureen Boyle is living in Belfast. [2] She studied English at Trinity College, Dublin, graduating B.A in 1984. Her poems have been published in Fortnight Magazine, The Yellow Nib, and elsewhere. She is married to the Belfast journalist and writer Malachi O'Doherty. [3] She teaches at St Dominic's Grammar School for Girls in Belfast. [4]

Seamus Justin Heaney was an Irish poet, playwright and translator. He received the 1995 Nobel Prize in Literature. Among his best-known works is Death of a Naturalist (1966), his first major published volume. American poet Robert Lowell described him as "the most important Irish poet since Yeats", and many others, including the academic John Sutherland, have said that he was "the greatest poet of our age". Robert Pinsky has stated that "with his wonderful gift of eye and ear Heaney has the gift of the story-teller." Upon his death in 2013, The Independent described him as "probably the best-known poet in the world".

President of Ireland Michael D Higgins said of Mahon; "he shared with his northern peers the capacity to link the classical and the contemporary but he brought also an edge that was unsparing of cruelty and wickedness."

The Patrick Kavanagh Poetry Award is an Irish poetry award for a collection of poems by an author who has not previously been published in collected form. It is based on an open competition whose closing date is in July each year. The award was founded by the Patrick Kavanagh Society in 1971 to commemorate the poet.
