Max (Masse) Zimmermann (born February 14, 1994) is a German professional Canadian football wide receiver who is a wide receiver for the Berlin Thunder in the European League of Football. He was born in Germany and played in the German Football League before being signed by the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League (CFL).

Early life and education

Zimmerman was born on February 14, 1994, in Berlin, Germany. He went to college at Potsdam.

Professional career

Potsdam Royals

He started his career with the Potsdam Royals of the German Football League in 2017. He played there from 2017 to 2018. [1] In 2017, he played on the Germany national American football team. [1] In his two seasons with the Royals, he played in 21 games and had 60 receptions for 1,242 yards and 18 touchdowns. [1] They won the 2018 EFL Bowl.

Saskatchewan Roughriders

In 2019, he was picked as 1 of 18 European players to attend the 2019 CFL Combine. Zimmermann was drafted in the 2019 CFL European Draft by the Saskatchewan Roughriders. [2] [3] [4] [5] He spent most of the season on the practice squad but he did make one appearance. [6] He did not have any statistics in his one game. He was released on June 21, 2021. [7]

Kuopio Steelers

When the 2020 CFL season was canceled, players were allowed to play in other leagues. Zimmermann went to the Kuopio Steelers in a Finland football league. [8] [9] The Steelers would later win the league championship. [10]

He played amateur football in his hometown of Regina, starting with the Regina Rams junior football club, and continuing with the team after they became affiliated with the University of Regina. While playing university football, Clermont was named an All-Star and All-Canadian, as well as the Most Valuable Player in the Canada West Conference and represented Western Canada as one of only 2 Canadian players in the East West Shrine Bowl in San Francisco. As a professional, Clermont's honours have included being named the CFL's Most Outstanding Rookie in 2002, Most Outstanding Canadian in 2004 and 2007, as well as the Most Valuable Canadian at the 2004 Grey Cup. Clermont captured a Grey Cup championship with the Lions in 2006. He joined his hometown Roughriders at the start of the 2009 season after being released by the Lions and is now a member of the Regina Sports Hall of Fame as well as the University of Regina Hall of Fame and BC Lions Wall of Fame.

Jason Armstead is a former professional Canadian football and American football kick returner and wide receiver. Armstead is currently a free-agent. He was most recently a member of the Calgary Stampeders in the Canadian Football League. He was signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers as an undrafted free agent in 2003. He played college football for Mississippi.
