The Mayor of Bhopal is the leader of the city of Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh state of India. The mayor is the head of the Bhopal Municipal Corporation. The mayor is supported by a commissioner with executive powers. [1] Malti Rai of the Bhartiya Janta Party became the city's tenth mayor in 2022. [2]
Madhya Pradesh is a state in central India. Its capital is Bhopal, and its largest city is Indore. Other major cities of the state are Jabalpur and Gwalior. Madhya Pradesh is the second largest Indian state by area and the fifth largest state by population with over 72 million residents. It borders the states of Uttar Pradesh to the northeast, Chhattisgarh to the east, Maharashtra to the south, Gujarat to the west, and Rajasthan to the northwest.
Bhopal is the capital city of the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh and the administrative headquarters of both Bhopal district and Bhopal division. It is known as the City of Lakes, due to presence of various natural and artificial lakes near the city boundary. It is also one of the greenest cities in India. It is the 16th largest city in India and 131st in the world. After the formation of Madhya Pradesh, Bhopal was part of the Sehore district. It was bifurcated in 1972 and a new district, Bhopal, was formed. Flourishing around 1707, the city was the capital of the former Bhopal State, a princely state of the British ruled by the Nawabs of Bhopal until India's independence in 1947. India achieved independence on 15 August 1947. Bhopal was one of the last states to sign the ‘Instrument of Accession’. The ruler of Bhopal acceded to the Indian government, and Bhopal became an Indian state on 1 May 1949. Sindhi refugees from Pakistan were accommodated in Bairagarh, a western suburb of Bhopal.
The Bhopal disaster or Bhopal gas tragedy was a chemical accident on the night of 2–3 December 1984 at the Union Carbide India Limited (UCIL) pesticide plant in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India. In what is considered the world's worst industrial disaster, over 500,000 people in the small towns around the plant were exposed to the highly toxic gas methyl isocyanate (MIC). Estimates vary on the death toll, with the official number of immediate deaths being 2,259. In 2008, the Government of Madhya Pradesh paid compensation to the family members of 3,787 victims killed in the gas release, and to 574,366 injured victims. A government affidavit in 2006 stated that the leak caused 558,125 injuries, including 38,478 temporary partial injuries and approximately 3,900 severely and permanently disabling injuries. Others estimate that 8,000 died within two weeks, and another 8,000 or more have since died from gas-related diseases.

Akhilesh Yadav is an Indian politician and national president of the Samajwadi Party who served as the 20th Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. Having assumed the chief minister's office on 15 March 2012 at the age of 38, he is the youngest person to have held the office till date. He is the incumbent Member of Parliament for Kannauj in the 18th Lok Sabha. He is the parliamentary party leader of Samajwadi Party in 18th Lok Sabha. Earlier, he was an elected as the Member of Legislative Assembly for Karhal in the 18th Vidhan Sabha, before resigning and has also been the Leader of Opposition in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly from March 2022 to June 2024.
Raja Bhoj Airport is a domestic airport and a seasonal international airport serving Bhopal, the capital of the state of Madhya Pradesh, India. It was notified as customs airport on 13 March 2024. Named after the 10th century Paramara king, Raja Bhoj, it is the second busiest airport in Madhya Pradesh in terms of passenger and aircraft movements. It is the largest airport in the state by area. It is located in Gandhi Nagar, 15 km (9.3 mi) away from Bhopal Junction railway station in the city centre, and 20 km (12 mi) away from Habibganj railway station in the south of the city. Since 1 October 2024 the Airport has commenced round the clock (24*7) operations, facilitating increased connectivity and flexibility.
Dhool Ka Phool is a 1959 Indian Hindi-language film produced by B. R. Chopra and directed by B. R.'s brother Yash Chopra, being his first movie as a director, having been an assistant director in B. R.'s earlier film Naya Daur. The film stars Rajendra Kumar, Mala Sinha, Ashok Kumar and Nanda in lead roles along with Leela Chitnis, Jeevan and Manmohan Krishna. The story revolves around a Muslim man bringing up an "illegitimate" Hindu child and featured the classic song Too Hindu Banega Na Musalman Banega, Insaan Ki Aulaad Hai, Insaan Banega on Manmohan Krishna, who also won the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Abdul Rasheed. Besides that, Sinha received a nomination for Best Actress and Mukhram Sharma for Best Story. The film was remade in Telugu as Jeevana Teeralu (1977).
Pyar Kiye Jaa is a 1966 Indian Hindi-language romantic comedy film directed and produced by C. V. Sridhar. It stars Kishore Kumar, Shashi Kapoor, Mehmood, Kalpana, Rajasree, Mumtaz and Om Prakash. It was a "semi-hit" at the box office. The film is a remake of the Tamil comedy Kadhalikka Neramillai (1964), which was remade into Telugu as Preminchi Choodu in 1965. Actress Rajasree starred in all three versions of the film. Kadhalikka Neramillai was also later remade in Kannada as Preethi Madu Thamashe Nodu and in Marathi as Dhoom Dhadaka. The role played by Nagesh in the Tamil version was reprised by Mehmood in the Hindi version and by Dwarakish in the Kannada version.

The film stars Mithun Chakraborty, Rati Agnihotri, Rekha, Ranjeeta, Danny Denzongpa in pivotal roles. It is a remake of the Telugu film Nyayam Kavali. Rekha received a nomination for Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress, the only nomination for the film.

The Bhoj Metro is an under construction rapid transit system intended to serve the city of Bhopal, India, the capital of the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. The total system consists of 6 corridors covering a distance of 104.87 kilometres (65.16 mi). The first phase of the Bhopal Metro project consists of 28 km (17.40 mi) of line 2 & 5 being under construction. This project will cost ₹80 billion (US$920 million) approximately. There will be three types of run – on road, on bridges, and underground in some locations.
The Indore Metro is a rapid transit system which is under construction for the city of Indore, in the state of Madhya Pradesh, India. The total system consists of 11 corridors (lines) covering a distance of 124 kilometres (77 mi). This project will cost approximately ₹12,000 crore (US$1.4 billion). The cost per km will be 182 crores and total cost is 15,000 crores. The metro system will be elevated, underground and on ground. The first phase of the project is to be completed by 2024.
Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) is the Municipal Corporation for the capital city of Madhya Pradesh. It is responsible for the civic infrastructure and administration of the city of Bhopal. BMC administers an area of 463 km2. BMC is headed by Kolsani V.S. Choudhary (IAS) as the commissioner and Alok Sharma as the mayor. In August 2014, the corporation became one of India’s first municipal corporations to automate citizen services, working with German software company SAP SE for the purpose.

Bibaho Obhijaanlit. 'The Adventures of Marriage' is an Indian Bengali-language comedy drama film directed by Birsa Dasgupta and produced by Shrikant Mohta and Mahendra Soni. The film stars Ankush Hazra and Bangladeshi actress Nusraat Faria in lead roles, and Priyanka Sarkar, Rudranil Ghosh, Anirban Bhattacharya and Sohini Sarkar in supporting roles. This film was released on 21 June 2019 under the banner of Shree Venkatesh Films. The music direction of the movie was made by Jeet Gannguli. A standalone sequel named Abar Bibaho Obhijaan was released on 25 May 2023.
Ram Sahay Panday is a Rai dancer from Sagar in the Indian State of Madhya Pradesh. The Rai dance was traditionally associated with the Bedia community which itself was associated with flesh trade. In spite of the fact that he was not a member of the community, he devoted his whole life to the practice and performance of the Rai dance and to secure acceptance and respectability to the dance form. His untiring efforts helped obtain national and international recognition to this dance form.
Malti Rai is an Indian politician who is mayor of Bhopal and president of the Bharatiya Janata Party of Bhopal, which nominated her for mayor. She is Bhopal's first female mayor. She was a city councillor from Ashoka Garden, Bhopal from 2004 to 2009.
