McKay Andrew Christensen (born August 14,1975) is an American former Major League Baseball outfielder.
Christensen played for three different ballclubs during his career:the Chicago White Sox (1999–2001),Los Angeles Dodgers (2001),and New York Mets (2002). He made his Major League Baseball debut on April 6,1999. Christensen last played in a Major League game on April 7,2002,and is now retired and working as a real estate developer.
Christensen is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,and reportedly passed up a million-dollar signing bonus in order to serve a mission in Japan. [1] Christensen was originally drafted by the California Angels and was traded to the White Sox while in Japan as a missionary.
Christensen's parents are Stephen LaMar Christensen (b. 1949 in Provo,Utah) and Victoria Ann "Vicki" (née Swan) Christensen (b. 1948 in Los Angeles County,California). [2] His uncle is Utah politician F. LaVar Christensen,and his 3rd great-grandfather is Nathaniel H. Felt,a member of the first Utah State Legislature.
Hideo Nomo is a Japanese former baseball pitcher who played in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) and Major League Baseball (MLB). He achieved early success in his native country,where he played with the Kintetsu Buffaloes from 1990 to 1994. He then exploited a loophole to free himself from his contract,and became the first Japanese major leaguer to permanently relocate to MLB in the United States,debuting with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1995. Although he was not the first Japanese player in American professional baseball,Nomo is often credited with opening the door for Japanese players in MLB,due to his star status.
Robin Mark Ventura is an American former professional baseball third baseman and manager. Ventura played 16 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Chicago White Sox,New York Mets,New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers. He was also the manager for the White Sox for five seasons. The White Sox selected Ventura with the tenth overall pick in the 1988 amateur draft from Oklahoma State University (OSU). Charles Edward Finley is an American former professional baseball pitcher. He pitched from 1986 to 2002 for three teams in Major League Baseball (MLB),primarily with the California Angels. Paul Henry Konerko is an American former professional baseball player. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a first baseman from 1997 to 2014,most prominently as a member of the Chicago White Sox,where he was a six-time American League All-Star and team captain for the 2005 World Series winning team. Konerko began his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Cincinnati Reds. In 2014,Konerko was named the recipient of the prestigious Roberto Clemente Award.
