Md Abu Hena Mostofa Kamal is the former senior secretary of the Ministry of Defence of Bangladesh. [1] [2]

Early life

Kamal holds a bachelor's degree in business studies from the University of Rajshahi and a master's degree in management from the University of Dhaka. [3] He did his Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSC) in science group. He did his PhD in Eco-tourism for local community development from the Netherlands. [4] He did his second master's degree in strategic policy and development.

Career

Dr. Md. Abu Hena Mostofa Kamal, joined the 7th batch of administration cadre of the Bangladesh Civil Service in 1988 [5] and the Government of Bangladesh for 34 years.

He has served in various capacities in different Ministries / Divisions, Organisations, Agencies and Institutions of the Government of Bangladesh with a very good reputation. He has shown praiseworthy performance, prudent and able leadership as Managing Director of the Bangladesh Overseas Employment and Services Limited(BOESL). He served as a diplomat at the Bangladesh Embassy abroad for about five years. Kamal was the director general of the Directorate of Primary Education. [6] Kamal was the secretary of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs. [7] Kamal was appointed the secretary of the Ministry of Defence on 7 July 2020. [5] He replaced Abdullah Al Mohsin Chowdhury, who had died from COVID-19 during the COVID-19 pandemic in Bangladesh. [7] On 20 January 2021, he was promoted to senior secretary. [5]

Kamal has been very successful as the Program Director of the 'Third Primary Education  Development Program' and the 'Fourth Primary Education Development Program', one of the mega programs in Bangladesh supported by about ten major development partners.

Kamal spoke at the 9th Moscow Conference on International Security organized by the Russian government. [8]

On 7 February 2022, Kamal retired as the secretary of the Ministry of Defence. [5]

Dr. Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal is a popular author. He has published so far twenty books. He enjoys writing novels, travel stories, children's classics and research writing.
