Meagan Hanson is an attorney and former Georgia State Representative from Brookhaven,Georgia. [1] A member of the Republican Party,she defeated Democratic Party incumbent Taylor Bennett in November 2016 in an upset. Hanson represented House District 80,which includes most of Brookhaven along with portions of the adjacent cities of Sandy Springs and Chamblee.
On November 6,2018,Hanson lost her bid for re-election to Matthew Wilson. [2]
Hanson was a candidate in the Republican primary for Georgia's 6th congressional district in the 2022 election, [3] losing the nomination to Rich McCormick.
Georgia's 6th congressional district is a congressional district in the U.S. state of Georgia. As of 2023,it is represented by Republican Rich McCormick. Previously represented by Democrat Lucy McBath,the district's boundaries were redrawn following the 2020 census to be significantly more Republican-leaning than it had been in the previous decade. As a result,McBath announced that she would be running against Carolyn Bourdeaux in the Democratic primary in the neighboring 7th congressional district,which she subsequently won. Rich McCormick defeated Democrat Bob Christian for the seat in the 2022 congressional elections,took office on January 3,2023.
Taylor Bennett is a former American football quarterback and former member of the Georgia House of Representatives. He began his collegiate career at Georgia Tech before transferring to the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs. He majored in International Affairs at Georgia Tech. He later enrolled as a graduate student majoring in Information Systems Security at Louisiana Tech in the fall of 2008. Taylor also obtained a Juris Doctor degree from Atlanta's John Marshall Law School.

The runoff election was necessary when no individual candidate earned the majority of votes in the election on April 18. Ossoff received 48.1% of the vote in the first round,followed by Handel with 19.8%.
