Mecklenburg County Council is a Scouting America council serving Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. The council was founded in 1915 and its offices are located in Charlotte.
Charlotte Council (#415) was founded in 1940, changing its name to Mecklenburg County Council (#415) in 1942. [3]
The council is divided geographically into three districts:
It operates two camp facilities, Belk Scout Camp (Formerly Clear Creek Scout Camp) in Midland, North Carolina, and Camp Grimes at Mecklenburg Scout Reservation, outside of the council borders near Marion, North Carolina. [5]
The council is served by Catawba Lodge 459 of the Order of the Arrow. The lodge was chartered on June 18th, 1951 and is named after the Catawba Native Americans who inhabited the Mecklenburg County area for many centuries. The translation of Catawba is "People of the River." The lodge totem is the Hornet’s Nest. [6]

The council is headquartered at the Royce Reynolds Family Scout Office in Greensboro, North Carolina and operates four camps; one of which is outside the council boundaries. The ONSC represents Boy Scouting in Davie, Davidson, Randolph, Guilford, Alamance, Rockingham, Caswell, and Person counties of North Carolina. The council's name is derived from the state's official song, The Old North State.
The Battle of Cowan's Ford took place in the Southern Theater of Cornwallis's 1780–1782 Campaign during the American Revolutionary War. It was fought on February 1, 1781, at Cowan's Ford on the Catawba River in northwestern Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, between a force of about 2,400 British and about 800 Whig (Patriot) militia who were attempting to slow the British advance across the river. The American general William Lee Davidson was killed in this battle.

Jennifer Roberts is an American politician, businesswoman and former diplomat who served as the 58th mayor of Charlotte, North Carolina. She was elected on November 3, 2015 having previously served four terms on the Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners. In 2012, she was the Democratic nominee for the United States House of Representatives in North Carolina's 9th congressional district.
The flag of Charlotte, North Carolina was adopted in 1929 and consists of a white saltire on a blue field, with the city seal in the center. A secondary flag, with a green field and a white crown in the center, was introduced in 1985 and is primarily used at city government buildings. Charlotte is one of the few places to have two official flags with equal status. The government of Mecklenburg County, while having its own flag, has made use of the 1985 flag at official events.
