Mediasurface Limited (previously known as Webdevelopment Ltd) was a UK-based supplier of content management systems and associated services, founded in February 1996 [1] by Ben Hayman and Steve Hebditch.

Their product, (renamed Morello in 2004) was used for websites and intranets at organisations including Aegon, Borealis, T-Mobile, UK Government Home Office, Citigroup, UK Government Environment Agency and Prudential plc.

History

The company was headquartered in London Bridge until early 2001 when the company moved to a new headquarters in Newbury, UK. Mediasurface floated on the Alternative Investment Market of the London Stock Exchange in August 2004. [2] Mediasurface had international offices in the USA, Netherlands, and Australia.

In April 2005 Mediasurface acquired Silverbullet, [3] a small CMS vendor in the Netherlands. Mediasurface redeveloped and relaunched this CMS as Pepperio in May 2006. [4]

In June 2007 Mediasurface acquired Immediacy, a competing CMS vendor, for approximately £5.6 million. [5]

In January 2008 the Pepperio product was acquired by Purestone (a UK based digital agency) [6]

In July 2008 Mediasurface was acquired by Alterian, a marketing software vendor. [7] [8] [9]

Under the ownership of Alterian the Morello product was renamed Alterian Content Management (ACM) [10]

In 2010 Alterian consolidated to a single CMS platform (ACM) and dropped the Immediacy product. [11]

In January 2012, Alterian was acquired by SDL PLC, a UK-based technology company. [12]

It provided integration for enterprise resource planning, customer relationship management and legacy systems, supporting Java EE and Microsoft.NET. Vignette's integrated development environment and application programming interface offered an alternative to conventional Common Gateway Interface/vi/Perl web development. StoryServer was used on many large websites including those of CNET, UnitedHealth Group, The Walt Disney Company, Wachovia, Martha Stewart, Fox News, National Geographic Channel, Pharmacia & Upjohn, MetLife, BSkyB, the 2004 Summer Olympics, and NASA.

CoreMedia is a global provider of digital experience solutions with corporate headquarters in Hamburg, Germany, and U.S. headquarters in Arlington, Virginia. The company was founded in 1996 and has additional offices in Washington DC and London.

Epicor Software Corporation is a business software company based in Austin, Texas founded in 1972. Its products are aimed at the manufacturing, distribution, retail and services industries.

MindLeaders was an e-learning and organizational development company with a global headquarters in Dublin, Ireland and offices in the UK, US, South Africa and Australia which has been described by Bersin as a "global e-learning player" along with Skillsoft and Element K. The company had a content library, mainly in the business skills and IT professional area but also for social care, hospitality and more general compliance training in the UK. These courses were typically accessed through one of two learning management system (LMS) platforms owned by the company. Whilst not a widely known brand, MindLeaders content was resold by consumer-facing channel partners including learndirect, Monster.com and Cornerstone OnDemand.

Alterian is a campaign management and real-time marketing software company headquartered in Denver, CO with offices in Bristol, UK and Sydney, Australia.

Metalogix Software is an independent software vendor, founded in 2001 in Vancouver, British Columbia by Julien Sellgren, Geordie Henderson and Rasool Rayani and was acquired by Quest Software, Inc. in July 2018. Metalogix develops, sells, and provides support for content infrastructure software for Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft Office 365 platforms.
