The Rai (exonym) or Khambu (endonym) are Kirati indigenous ethnolinguistic groups of the Indian subcontinent, what is now modern-day Nepal, mainly in the Indian states of Sikkim and West Bengal and Bhutan. The original name of Rai is Khambu. Rai means King in old khas kura. They are the descendants of Kirat Kingdom.

Sikkim Sangram Parishad is a regional political party in the Indian state of Sikkim. In 1984, Bhandari dissolved Sikkim Janata Parishad and formed a new party called Sikkim Sangram Parishad. Sikkim Sangram Parishad held on to power in the 1984 and 1989 elections, but after that lost to Sikkim Democratic Front, which has swept the elections since 1999. Nar Bahadur Bhandari has merged Sikkim Sangram Parishad with the Indian National Congress and he became the president of the Sikkim Pradesh Congress Committee (SPCC).
Nar Bahadur Bhandari was a chief minister of the state of Sikkim in India who governed the state from 1979 to 1994. He was the founding leader of the Sikkim Sangram Parishad party. He was popularly remembered for his efforts to include the Nepali language in 8th Schedule of the Constitution of India. He was the first Indian chief minister of Gorkha origin. He also served as the president of Bharatia Nepali Bhasha Parisangh until his death. He is popularly known as the architect of modern Sikkim.
