Mercy is a 2014 American supernatural horror film written by Matt Greenberg, directed by Peter Cornwell, and starring Frances O'Connor, Shirley Knight, Chandler Riggs, Joel Courtney, Dylan McDermott and Mark Duplass. It is loosely based on the 1984 short story "Gramma" by Stephen King. It was produced by Jason Blum for his Blumhouse Productions banner and McG. The film was released straight to video by Universal Pictures Home Entertainment on October 7, 2014. [1]
A single mother (Frances O’Connor) and her two children George (Chandler Riggs) and Buddy (Joel Courtney) go to help take care of their grandmother (Shirley Knight) who has mystical powers.
On October 25, 2012, it was announced Peter Cornwell would direct the film from a script by Matt Greenberg, and that Frances O'Connor had been attached to star. [2] On November 30, 2012, it was reported Chandler Riggs had joined the cast of the film, opposite Joel Courtney in the lead roles. [3]
The film was released on DVD and Blu-ray by Universal Pictures Home Entertainment on October 7, 2014.
Skeleton Crew is a short story collection by American writer Stephen King, published by Putnam in June 1985. "Gramma" is a short horror story by American author Stephen King. It was first published in Weirdbook magazine in 1984 and collected in King's 1985 collection called Skeleton Crew. King incorporated elements from works of H. P. Lovecraft in this story, making it a story set in the Cthulhu Mythos.

Peter Cornwell is an Australian filmmaker. Cornwell got his start working at the Australian Broadcasting Commission (ABC) in Sydney, Australia. Cornwell left ABC in order to create Trephine Production Studios, which he used to complete his award-winning short Ward 13, a stop motion animation that enjoyed success at several international film festivals. Ward 13 received the FIPRESCI Award from the International Federation of Film Critics at Valladolid, and was short-listed for an Oscar nomination in 2005.
