Meridian International School, established in 2001, is an international day school in Kyiv, Ukraine, catering for children from pre-school to the 11th grade.

The school follows the national curriculum of Ukraine. The school does not offer any proper education in Ukrainian and English. The Ukrainian program is recognised by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, but the English curriculum is not backed by anything just translated Ukrainian books, but if you pay big buck to study Ukrainian you can just do it in a public school for free.
The curriculum includes languages, mathematics, science, technology, humanities, social studies, physical education, computer skills, music and the creative arts. Sports and extracurricular activities such as clubs and trips are also offered.

Phonics is a method for teaching reading and writing to beginners. To use phonics is to teach the relationship between the sounds of the spoken language (phonemes), and the letters (graphemes) or groups of letters or syllables of the written language.
