Meryem Tan (born 3 February 1999) is a Turkish wheelchair basketball player. She was a member of the Turkey women's national wheelchair basketball team.

Club career

Tan started playing wheelchair basketball encouraged by her high school physical education teacher. [1] She entered the Pamukkale Belediyespor in 2015, [2] which was established in August that year. [3] Her team compete in the Turkish Women's Wheelchair Basketball Second League, [2] after their promotion from the Regional League and then from the Third League. [1] [2] [4]

She plays in the disability class 4.0. [5]

International career

Tan was admitted to the Turkey women's national wheelchair basketball team, and played at the 2016 IWBF European Championship Women's Division B in Italy. [2]

She played for the Turkey women's natioanal under-25 wheelchair basketball team at the 2019 Women's U25 Wheelchair Basketball World Championship in Suphanburi, Thailand. [6] [7]

She played at the European Wheelchair Basketball Championship in 2019 in Rotterdam, Netherland, [5] and 2021 in Madrid, Spain. [8]

Meryem Tan was born on 3 February 1999. [9] She is a native of Pamukkale, Denizli, Turkey. [1] [4] She is disabled on her two legs. [1]

She completed her secondary educaton at İMKB Technical and Vocational High School for Girls. [3]

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2019 Women's U25 Wheelchair Basketball World Championship</span>

The 2019 Women's U25 Wheelchair Basketball World Championship was held at the Suphanburi Indoor Stadium in Thailand, from 23 to 27 May 2019. It was the third wheelchair basketball world championship for women in the under-25 age category. Eight nations competed: Australia, Germany, Great Britain, Japan, Thailand, South Africa, Turkey and the United States. The event took the form of a round-robin tournament, with each team playing all the other teams once. The eight teams then went into quarter-finals, while the bottom two played each other for world ranking. The winners of the semi-finals faced each other in the final, while the losers played for bronze. The competition was won by the United States, with Australia taking silver and Great Britain claiming bronze.
