Metanoia was a Christian death metal and grindcore band that originated from Townsville, Queensland, Australia. The band formed in 1990 but disbanded in 2000. The band started as a vision of guitarist Steve Bennett's. [4] The main members of the band consisted of husband and wife Steve (Guitars) and Lisa Bennett (Bass) and vocalist Justin 'Yowie' Smith. [5]
Metanoia formed in 1990 by Steve Bennett, with his wife Lisa (Spud) on bass, Dylan Speerstra on drums, and Yowie Smith on vocals. In 1996, the band saw the departure of Speerstra, who was replaced by Ian Northey. In 1998, Smith left the band and was replaced by Simon Pankhurst. The band dissolved in 2000.

Mortification was an Australian Christian death metal band which was formed in 1987 as a heavy metal group, Lightforce, by mainstay Steve Rowe on bass guitar and vocals. By 1990, in the Melbourne suburb of Moorabbin, they were renamed as Mortification with the line-up of Rowe, Michael Carlisle on guitar and Jayson Sherlock on drums. Mortification has released fourteen studio albums, three compilation albums, three extended plays, six live discs, one demo album, one box set, and several videos on major record labels such as Nuclear Blast. As one of the earliest internationally successful Christian death metal bands from Australia, they served as an inspiration for later similar groups.

They have released most of their albums since their House by the Cemetery EP with Relapse Records, but have released their latest album with their own label, Mortician Records. They have toured several times throughout America and Europe. The band is inspired by horror and slasher films, which is heavily expressed in the lyrics, artwork, and the uses of samples throughout their discography.

Gorerotted were an English deathgrind band formed in 1997 that disbanded in January 2008 and reformed with new members as The Rotted. Gorerotted's lyrics and song titles were largely inspired by horror films and serial killers. The band's song titles often incorporated humorous rhymes or puns such as "Cut, Gut, Beaten, Eaten", "Put Your Bits in a Concrete Mix", and "Only Tools and Corpses", a pun on the popular British sitcom Only Fools and Horses, the latter beginning with a similar introductory drumbeat to the sitcom's theme music.
Acheron was an American death/black metal band from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, that was formed by Vincent Crowley in 1988. The band is named after the mythological river Acheron located in the underground kingdom of Hades in ancient Greek mythology. They are not to be confused with 1990s Australian death metal band Acheron, nor the 1980s/1990s American power metal band Acheron, nor any of several lesser known European thrash and death metal bands with similar names between the 1980s and the present.
Circle of Dead Children is an American deathgrind band formed in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1998. After the release of a self-titled demo that was put out the same year they formed, Circle of Dead Children signed on with Willowtip Records to release their debut full-length album, Starving the Vultures, which comprised the demo tracks as well as several new ones.

Stephen Andrew Rowe is an Australian musician who is the founder, vocalist and bass guitarist of the Christian death metal band Mortification, which is considered to be a pioneer in the genre. Prior to forming Mortification, he was in a traditional heavy metal-styled Christian band known as LightForce. He was diagnosed with leukemia in 1997, but made a full recovery. He is currently the owner and head of the Rowe Productions record label. In 2015, Rowe announced his retirement from Christian music. However, his career has continued, while Mortification has been inactive the members' side project, Wonrowe Vision, have remained active.
Dead Infection was a Polish goregrind band, that was founded in 1990 by Cyjan and Domin. Since their formation, the band has released a few full-length albums, and 7-inch EPs. They are the second band from Poland after Vader that made a deal to release a CD/LP with a non-European label. Their second album, A Chapter Of Accidents, is considered by many to be among the milestones of goregrind music. They played numerous live shows around the world, across Europe, the United States, South America, Mexico, and Japan. In February 2020, Cyjan died, which led to the group's disbandment.
Inhumate are a French deathgrind band. They started off as a death metal band in 1990 but with a line up change in 1993 where Stephane and Olivier left the band and were replaced by Valentin and Sebastien, the band's musical stile shifted towards grindcore.

Human Remains was an American grindcore band, formed in 1989 in New Jersey. The band featured the vocalist Paul Miller, the guitarists Steve Procopio and James Baglino, as well as the drummer Dave Witte, who is also known for his work for Discordance Axis, Burnt by the Sun, and Atomsmasher. The band's most notable release, Using Sickness as a Hero EP, was released by Relapse Records in 1996. A compilation album featuring the band's entire discography, Where Were You When: 1989-1995, was also released in 2002.
