Metrica was a global media analysis, media evaluation and PR planning consultancy that became part of the Gorkana group which is now owned by Cision. Headquartered in London, Metrica was founded in 1993. The company worked in the fields of reputation management, public relations measurement and content analysis. Metrica is part of The Gorkana Group, which incorporated Durrants, Gorkana and Metrica.

History

Metrica was founded in 1993 by Mark Westaby, director of Portfolio Communications. Since 1996 the company was run by Managing Director Richard Bagnall and Media Analysis Director Paul Hender.[ citation needed ]

Metrica's Head Office was on Old Street close to the Silicon Roundabout in East London's Tech City. The company employed over 200 staff and consultants across the globe and is retained by more than 150 organisations.[ citation needed ]

In October 2009, Metrica was acquired by Exponent Private Equity, into the fund which already owned Durrants, a provider of media monitoring services. [1] [ dead link ] In April 2010, Durrants also acquired Gorkana, a media database and portal for PRs and journalists. [2] The three companies together formed The Gorkana Group to reenergise the pr services tool sector.[ citation needed ]

On 22 November 2010, Gorkana Group announced it has taken a stake in Brighton-based social media monitoring company Brandwatch. [3] [ dead link ]

In October 2014, Gorkana Group was sold to Cision in a deal reported to be worth £200 million. [4] [5] [6] [7]

Services

Metrica specialised in analysing and measuring all forms of media, including broadcast, print, online, social media & CGM (Consumer Generated Media).[ citation needed ]

Metrica offered the following services: media evaluation, social media monitoring, Social media measurement and evaluation, PR planning, market research and communications evaluation consultancy.[ citation needed ]

Membership

Metrica was a founding member of The International Association for Measurement and Evaluation of Communication (AMEC), the global trade body and professional institute for agencies and practitioners who provide media evaluation and communication research.[ citation needed ]
