Mi Kwan Lock is a French actress.
Lock was born in Mulhouse, France. [1] She is of Chinese desecent [2] and from the age of 10 grew up in Madagascar. She resides in Paris, France. [3] She lived in Los Angeles, USA, from 2017 to 2020. She won the "Artist of the year" Award at the UP(st)ART Awards 2018.
She plays the female lead in the 2015 film A Korean in Paris directed by Jeon Soo-il which screened at the 20th Busan International Film Festival [4] and at the Palm Springs Film Festival. [5]
She plays the leading female role in several films by director Christian Lara including The Legend featuring Barry Primus, Summer in Provence which screened at the Pan African Film Festival [6] [7] and Esclave et Courtisane which screened at the FESPACO and on TV5 Monde. [8]
Lock has studied with Blanche Salant in Paris, France as well as with Jack Waltzer from the Actors Studio. [9] She made her directorial, producer, and scriptwriter debut with the award-winning short film “Red Karma”.
She hosted the 2015 Paris Shanghai Film Festival (France), was a member of the jury at the 3rd Film Festival of the Lagoons (Ivory Coast), was president of the jury at cal of Carros (France) in 2015, then a judge of the 2021 Future Drifter Screenwriting contest, jury of the 2022 Festival du Film Merveilleux under the patronage of UNESCO, the 2023 Paris International Film Festival and most recently, Mi Kwan was a jury member at the 2023 Fantasy Film Festival (Paris, France).
The Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), formerly the Pusan International Film Festival (PIFF), held annually in Haeundae-gu, Busan, South Korea, is one of the most significant film festivals in Asia. Zanka Contact is a 2020 Moroccan film directed by Ismael El Iraki. Described as a Wild at Heart-type love story with debts to Quentin Tarantino and Sergio Leone, the film was inspired by El Iraki's emotional journey and recovery after he found himself in the midst of the horrors of the 2015 Bataclan attacks in Paris. Following a screening at the 77th Venice International Film Festival where the film's lead actress, Moroccan singer Khansa Batma, won the Venice Orizzonti Award for Best Actress, the film went on to be selected for over thirty international festivals and won several awards through its festival run 2020 to 2022. Among them, Zanka Contact was awarded the Golden Tutankhamun Award for best feature film at the Luxor African Film Festival.
The 27th Busan International Film Festival was held from October 5 at the Busan Cinema Center in Busan, South Korea till October 14. This year, the festival restarted events and program sections which were not conducted due to COVID-19 for last 2 years. The festival opened with Iranian film Scent of the Wind by director Seyed Hadi Mohaghegh, Jeon Yeo-been with Ryu Jun-yeol were master of ceremonies for the opening ceremony.
