Micaela Papa is a Filipino journalist who has worked for the BBC in London and GMA Network in Manila. She is one of the youngest international award-winning broadcast journalist in the Philippines, best known for disaster coverages such as her firsthand report of Supertyphoon Haiyan [1] in 2013 (part of the GMA News collective entry that won the prestigious Peabody award [2] ) and her documentaries on social issues, such as 2013's Brigada documentary "Gintong Krudo" which garnered several awards, including the Silver World Medal at the New York Festivals [3] and the One World Award from the International Quorum of Motion Picture Producers. [4]
Papa has served as presenter and reporter for episodes of the BBC World Service programmes “The Compass, [5] ” and “World Hacks, [6] ” and has produced episodes of “Profile [7] ” for BBC Radio 4. She has also done two-way interviews for other international media networks such as Canada's CBC News.
Papa was a recipient of the prestigious Chevening Scholarship [8] and the One World Media Production Grant. [9]

Originally hosted by Vicky Morales, Luchi Cruz-Valdes, Mike Enriquez, Cheche Lazaro and Jessica Soho, it premiered on January 18, 1999. It is the longest-running documentary program in Philippine television. The show concluded on GMA Network on April 29, 2020. The show moved to GMA News TV on August 14, 2020 on the network's Power Block line up. The show returned to GMA Network on January 16, 2021 on the network's Sabado Star Power sa Gabi line up. Sandra Aguinaldo, Kara David, Howie Severino and Atom Araullo currently serve as the hosts.

Typhoon Haiyan, known in the Philippines as Super Typhoon Yolanda, was one of the most powerful tropical cyclones ever recorded. On making landfall, Haiyan devastated portions of Southeast Asia, particularly the Philippines. It is one of the deadliest Philippine typhoons on record, killing at least 6,300 people in that country alone. In terms of JTWC-estimated 1-minute sustained winds, Haiyan is tied with Meranti in 2016 for being the second strongest landfalling tropical cyclone on record, only behind Goni of 2020. As of January 2014, bodies were still being found. Haiyan was also the most intense tropical cyclone worldwide in 2013. This typhoon is also the second deadliest typhoon in the Philippines.
