Michael Mackay (born 11 October 1982) is an English footballer who plays for Consett. [1] He is the all-time top goalscorer for Consett. [2]

He made the move to Durham City from Birtley Town, where he scored prolifically, with 29 goals in his first season. He scored 30 goals before moving to Consett.

Mackay scored 43 goals in the first half of the 2006–07 season, [3] which tempted Hartlepool to sign him in February 2007.

Mackay scored his first league goal for Hartlepool United on 2 October against Carlisle United, and then scored another goal in the Football League Trophy against Lincoln City on 9 October, a week after scoring his first. Mackay signed a new contract with the club in the summer of 2009.

On 3 August 2009, Mackay signed for Gateshead on loan for six months, [4] making his debut in a 0–3 defeat to Histon five days later. [5] Mackay scored his first goal for Gateshead the following week in a 1–2 defeat to Luton Town. [6]

In May 2011, he was not offered a new contract by Hartlepool, along with nine other players from the 2010/11 squad. [7]

Mackay scored 22 goals for Consett in the 2018/19 season, however an injury led to him only making nine appearances the following season. [8]

The 2009–10 season was the 124th season in the history of Luton Town Football Club. Luton's 24th-place finish in Football League Two in 2008–09 meant that the club competed in the Conference Premier for the first time in its history, and in a division outside of the Football League for the first time since the beginning of their second spell as a member in 1920. Although tipped as favourites for the title and promotion before the season had even begun, the club struggled to immediately adapt to life in the new division, ultimately costing manager Mick Harford his job. Richard Money was appointed as new manager soon after, eventually leading the club to an unbeaten run of 14 games towards the end of the season that propelled them to a second-place finish in the league. However, defeat in the play-off semi-finals to York City meant Luton were to remain in the Conference for the 2010–11 season.
