Michael McKiernan is a former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1980s. He was part of the inaugural Newcastle Knights squad from 1988 to 1989.
McKiernan played with Lakes United before signing with Newcastle in 1988.
McKiernan made his first grade debut for Newcastle in Round 1 1988 against Parramatta which ended in a 28–4 defeat. McKiernan scored his one and only try for Newcastle against Brisbane in Round 6 1988. McKiernan played on with Newcastle in 1989 and his final game in first grade was a 20–2 loss against Western Suburbs at Campbelltown Stadium in Round 16 1989. [2]

Playing in red and blue, the Knights joined the top tier competition in 1988, 79 years after the previous Newcastle based team, the Newcastle Rebels had departed the Sydney competition with the formation of a separate league competition based in the Newcastle region.

Harragon was a regular presenter of The Footy Show and as of 2013 is the Chairman of the Newcastle Knights Advisory Board.
Michael Hagan is an Australian professional rugby league football coach and former player. He currently works as an assistant coach under Mal Meninga for the Australian rugby league team. A Queensland State of Origin representative half, he played his club football in Australia with Canterbury-Bankstown and Newcastle, as well as in England with Halifax. He went on to have a successful coaching career with Newcastle and Parramatta, and was also selected to coach the Queensland Maroons for two State of Origin series before becoming Meninga's assistant coach. Hagan was inducted into the Newcastle Knights Hall of Fame in April, 2012.
