Michael Moran (born June 27, 1976) is a retired American artistic gymnast. He was a member of the United States men's national artistic gymnastics team and won a silver medal at the 1999 Pan American Games. He competed collegiately for the Temple Owls.

Early life and education

Moran was born on June 27, 1976, in Hartford, Connecticut. He grew up in Windsor, Connecticut and started gymnastics at 5 years old. [1] [2] He trained under former Olympic gold medalist Tim Daggett at Tim Daggett's Gold Medal Gymnastics in Agawam, Massachusetts. [3] He attended Windsor High School and graduated before a doing a post-graduate year at Loomis Chaffee School in 1995. [2] [4] [5] He enrolled at Temple University to pursue gymnastics.

Gymnastics career

In 1995, Moran placed first in the all-around at the First Summer Olympic Festival in Rio de Janeiro. [2] He was a member of the Temple Owls men's gymnastics team from 1996 to 2000. [6] Multiple surgeries resulted in Moran missing large portions of his early career. [6] [7] Under Temple coach Fred Turoff, Moran became a six-time conference champion and three-time All-America selection with the Owls. [6]

On the international stage, Moran represented the United States at the 1999 Pan American Games and won a silver medal in the team all-around. [8] [9] He retired from competition in 2000. [1]

Post-athletic career

After retiring from gymnastics competition, Moran worked at Tropicana Casino & Resort Atlantic City and later was a cast member for the touring live action stage show Spider-Man Live!. [1] He started a circus troupe with Temple Owls men's gymnastics teammate Aaron Vexler. [10] [11]

Awards and honors

Moran was inducted into the Temple University Athletics Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2023. [12]

Jonathan Alan Horton is a former American artistic gymnast. He was a member of the United States men's national artistic gymnastics team and is the 2008 Olympic silver medalist on horizontal bar, the 2010 World all-around bronze medalist, a two-time Olympian, a two-time U.S. National All-Around Champion, and a 17-time medalist at the U.S. National Championships. At the 2008 Olympics, he also won a bronze medal with his U.S. teammates in the team competition. He also competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, where he qualified for the horizontal bar event final and finished in sixth place. In 2016, he had surgery on his left rotator cuff and as a result was unable to qualify for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Frank Joseph Cumiskey was an American gymnast. He was a member of the United States men's national artistic gymnastics team and competed in the 1932 Summer Olympics, in the 1936 Summer Olympics, and in the 1948 Summer Olympics.

Samuel Anthony Mikulak is an American gymnastics coach. A retired artistic gymnast, he was a member of the United States men's national artistic gymnastics team. He is a six-time U.S. national all-around champion, the 2018 World bronze medalist on the horizontal bar, and a three-time Olympian. He is also an eight-time NCAA champion, winning the team, individual all-around, and several individual event titles at the 2011, 2013, and 2014 NCAA Men's Gymnastics championships. In 2023, he started serving as a gymnastics coach at EVO Gymnastics.

Guillermo Carlos Alvarez is an American artistic gymnastics coach and former gymnast. He was a member of the United States men's national artistic gymnastics team and won three medals while representing the United States at the 2007 Pan American Games.

Manrique Larduet Bicet is a Cuban artistic gymnast. At the 2015 World Championships, he won the silver medal in the all-around- becoming Cuba's first World all-around medalist. He is also the 2015 World horizontal bar bronze medalist, and he represented Cuba at the 2016 Summer Olympics. He is the 2015 Pan American Games vault champion and all-around silver medalist. He is the 2018 Pan American all-around champion and a two-time Pan American champion on the parallel bars At the 2014 Pan American Sports Festival he won medals in every event, including the all-around gold. He withdrew from the 2020 Summer Olympics due to a dispute with the Cuban Gymnastics Federation, and he now lives and trains in Italy.

Robert Hayden Neff is a retired American artistic gymnast. He is a former member of the United States men's national artistic gymnastics team.

Audrys Nin Reyes is a Dominican artistic gymnast. He is the 2019 and 2023 Pan American Games vault champion. He was the first Dominican gymnast to win a gold medal at the Pan American Games. He was also the first Dominican gymnast to win a gold medal at an FIG World Cup event when he won the vault title at the 2017 Osijek World Challenge Cup. He is the 2017 Pan American vault and horizontal bar champion and the 2017 Universiade vault champion. He is also the 2018 and 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games vault champion. He has qualified to represent the Dominican Republic at the 2024 Summer Olympics, the first male gymnast from his country to do so.

William Émard is a Canadian artistic gymnast. He represented Canada at the 2024 Olympic Games. At the 2021 World Championships, he finished eighth in the all-around final, marking the best result for a Canadian male gymnast in World Championship history.

Michael Dutka is a retired American artistic gymnast. He was a member of the United States men's national artistic gymnastics team and won a silver medal at the 1999 Pan American Games. He competed collegiately for the Penn State Nittany Lions.
