Michael R. Cunningham is chancellor of the National University System. He previously also served as president of the university between 2013 and 2016. Prior to this he was dean of the College of Business Administration at San Diego State University. For most of his career, Cunningham was a business executive. He was the founder of Cunningham Graphics International, which was listed on the NASDAQ in 1998.
Dr. Cunningham earned his bachelor's degree in marketing and business management from the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 1982, [1] his master's degree in graphic communications, management and technology from New York University in 1996, and his Ph.D. in administration, leadership and technology from New York University in 2005. [2] [3]
Cunningham worked as a sales executive for Gibson Graphics in New York from 1981 to 1983. He later became a senior vice president of sales for Scott Printing in New Jersey. [4] He then founded Cunningham Graphics International (CGII) in 1983 as a printing brokerage, and opened his own printing facility in 1989. CGII would grow to become one of the largest printing companies in the world according to the Wall Street Journal, and he took the company public on NASDAQ in 1998. [5] The company was sold to Automatic Data Processing (ADP) in 2000 for $127.6 million; at that time it had eighteen production sites globally and employed approximately 1,300 people. [6] A management group then repurchased the company piecemeal between 2004 and 2006, naming the amalgamation the Diversified Global Graphics Group. In 2007 Cunningham returned to act as president and CEO of the company, which he renamed DG3, until 2010. [7] [3]
Cunningham worked as an adjunct professor at NYU, teaching quality control [5] and also taught at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Following his PhD, he began teaching management and entrepreneurship courses at San Diego State University in 2005. In 2011 he was named dean of the College of Business Administration. [1] Between 2013 and 2016, Cunningham served a dual role as both chancellor of the National University System and president of National University. Following 2016, he remained chancellor of the university system. [8]
He served as chair for NYU's Graphic Communication, Management, and Technology Center and as its curriculum committee chair. He also served as an alumni trustee of New York University and the chair of the Graphic Communications Advisory Board at Kean University. [9] In addition, he is a member of the executive committee of the Association of Independent California College and Universities, and he serves on the education committee for CalChamber. He is also a member of the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation, [10] and former chair of the Hall of Champions Museum Committee. He is also a trustee of the NYU Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development Dean's Council. [9] He also serves on the board of governors for the Center for Creative Leadership. In 1995 Cunningham was named New Jersey Small Business Administration's Business Person of the Year [12] In 2010, Cunningham was honored by Gamma Chapter of Gamma Epsilon Tau, the national graphic arts honor society, with a Gold Key Award. [13]
Michael Cunningham has served on the boards of the San Diego Foundation, the Christ Hospital Foundation of New Jersey, and the Boys and Girls Clubs of New Jersey. He is a contributor to Sanford Burnham Research, San Pasqual Academy, and the San Diego Sports Commission. [14] Cunningham also has supported efforts to increase housing opportunities for military veterans. [15] As Honorary Chair for the Epilepsy Foundation of San Diego's 2017 Gingerbread City Gala, Cunningham raised approximately $400,000, which was the most the gala had raised over its history. [16]

The Fowler College of Business is one of seven academic colleges at San Diego State University (SDSU), located in San Diego, California, United States. The college offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees. On October 26, 2016 the university announced that the college was named the Fowler College of Business in honor of Ron Fowler, co-owner and executive chairman of the San Diego Padres, and his wife Alexis, who is a graduate of the college's Charles W. Lamden School of Accountancy. The couple had pledged a $25 million endowment to the college - the largest gift in the university's 119-year history.
San Diego State University Press is a university press that is part of San Diego State University, with noted specializations in Border Studies, Critical Theory, Latin American Studies, Cultural Studies, and comics. It is the oldest university press in the California State University system. It presently publishes books under two rubrics: CODEX, focused on critical theory, and surTEXT, focused on Latin American/Transamerican Cultural Studies. In 2006, SDSU Press also inaugurated Hyperbole Books, specializing in "publishing cutting-edge, over-the-top experiments in critical theory, literary criticism and graphic narrative."
The Koala is a satirical comedy college paper. In its current form, it exists as two notable unaffiliated publications, with one that was distributed quarterly on the campus of University of California San Diego, and monthly on the campus of San Diego State University. The publication at UCSD was one of a handful of campus newspapers partly or entirely funded by the Associated Students of UCSD, until a decision by AS UCSD to defund all 13 student media outlets. There have been recent efforts to revitalize the original branch. SDSU's branch of The Koala at one point operated within SDSU Associated Students as a Recognized Student Organization (RSO) until that status was revoked in 2007. The original branch of The Koala was founded at UCSD in 1982, but the details of its origins are uncertain. The composition of the paper consists of artwork, articles, personals, and lists similar to David Letterman's Top Ten List.
Gustavo "Gus" Adolfo Mellander is a leader in the field of university and college administration in the United States. He served as dean of academic affairs and interim chancellor at Inter American University of Puerto Rico, 1966–69, dean of York College, 1969–72, president of Passaic College in New Jersey from 1975 to 1985, president of Mission College, 1985, chancellor of the West Valley-Mission College District in California from 1985 to 1992, and subsequently as Dean of a Graduate School at George Mason University. In 1981 he was appointed by the governor of New Jersey to the State Board of Education. Since 2000 he has been President of Academic Resources, an academic research company.
The history of San Diego State University began in the late 19th century with the establishment of a normal school in San Diego, California. Founded on March 13, 1897, the school opened on November 1, 1898, with a class of 135 students. By 1921, the school had become San Diego State Teachers College, allowing it to grant certificates and degrees. Due to the increased student enrollment, the college was relocated to its current location at the east side of Mission Valley, with classes beginning in February 1931. The government works programs during the Great Depression assisted in construction of numerous buildings on the new campus.
